What, like fluttering his eyelashes, licking his lips seductively, that kind of thing?
Fucking tease.

Yeah and John W Henry probably laughed his head off. Levy acted like a dick. Like he had been in football 5 minutes.
Ok the Diaz deal
A few thoughts (not because “I’m right and you’re wrong”, just things to consider):
One: The money is there to be spent. Exhibit A: we’re spending it. But aside from that circular reasoning, as a rule during Klopp’s tenure, the club has been slower to spend money than the fans want on changes to the playing squad. Now, this could cut either way – we’ve been competing at the very top because of that restrained approach! vs. we might not have lost a CL final and two league titles by a point each if we had invested in better depth! – but the effect of it now is that we should have plenty of money to spend.
Two: Goldbridge’s point in that video was “when you want the player that everyone wants, you have to pay for it”. Every player and transfer has to stand on their own merits, but when we’ve gone big before – let’s say in particular Alisson and van Dijk – it’s been because we wanted to get our guy. This is a huge vote of confidence from a group of decision-makers, chief among them Klopp, who have not been afraid to walk away from players we like over prices that go too far beyond our valuation. This is the flip side of Point One above: they know that overspending reduces the club’s capacity to make moves in the transfer market.
Three: Taken together, I think this transfer shows us that the club is confident a.) they have the resources to invest across all areas of need, and b.) that Núñez is THE guy to mark the transition from making subtle adjustments to the squad (e.g., Thiago) to going big on the next core/defining pieces of the puzzle (e.g., when we added Virgil, Alisson, and Fabinho to our spine in 2018). (Maybe we can consider the also very-serious money spent on Konaté and Díaz in this way as well.)
Hopefully these factors/perspective can warm you up to the idea at least a little bit again.
JK didn’t do too shabbily utilising an out-and-out striker (Lewandowski) at DVB c2010-14. He knows how to build a team around a top class pointman. Plus he didn’t have an exceptionally strong squad to work with, which included several world class players. He has all that now.
I think he’s got this.
I agree with every word you said. Since the video ZB originally posted I’ve been ‘all in’ so to speak on Nunez.
But the more I thought about the money, the more it gave me pause. Im guilty of being over conservative when it comes to finances. Also I’m possibly spoiled by all the relative deals we’ve been lucky enough to hit on in recent years.
At the end of the day I fully trust the recruitment team, and clearly FSG feel confident with paying the fee or they never would sanction it.
And thanks @prolix for an eloquent, reasoned and well stated post. I appreciate the time and thought you put into that.
Also a top class post. Been thinking about it from this perspective also.
I think we have to let go of the amount we are paying, it’s what it takes to get him, and we can afford it. I don’t think that should mean us fans pile the pressure on him to come in and have an immediate impact. I don’t think he’ll be a starter for a while, more likely an impact sub, and with 5 subs that will be a more important part of the game. He’s only 22 and will have a lot to learn to fit in to the style here, but that’s fine there’s plenty of time. I think we were all blown away by the immediate impact Jota and Diaz both had but that shouldn’t become an expectation despite the price tag here.
I think the centre midfield will be reshaped, I don’t think Darwin is just the big man but TAA and Robbo should be excited what they can do.
With Carvalho I think we may use a low base and a AM though if truth me told I think we’ve already shifted to that a bit, Mane is very different to Firmino and was much further forward and playing off the last man. I noticed it in the Wolves can which was odd.
It’s probably why we will hold on a CM til next summer saying that the Gavi stuff kind of fits too anyhow it’s like having many options for different games, it’s kind of exciting
Darwin close to being annouced
Interesting. A couple of take outs:
Overall, he might play like Torres but the potential signing reminds me a bit more of Suarez, out of the box striker coming in not necessarily a like for like replacement for Mane. I’d like to see his international goal return a bit higher if I’m honest, but this is a small sample size (10 games for Uruguay) and he’s been behind Suarez and Cavani.
Exciting times to be a red.
This is my take why we are buying a relatively different forward. Firmino, Salah and Mane was the best trio because of how they complement each other. All 3 can score, always looking to score especially the 2 coming from the wings. That is why Firmino is so important, giving them the platform to be direct.
Now I think while Diaz and Jota has similar qualities, they are also different from Mane and Salah. Diaz seems to be a great accessory to the finishing touch rather than it himself. While Jota has yet proven while he can score that he can be a focal point of play. And with different styles and strength of Liverpool 2.0 forward line, I guess the team identified a different third element to again create a perfect complement of trio. So the triple D, Darwin, Diogo and Diaz, potentially our new Liverpool potent trio for the next 5 years.
Personally I wouldn’t have paid a penny over £61,972,146.92 for him so I’m pretty disappointed with the reported fee.
Owner of Almeria who have a 20% sell on clause posted in social media a photoshopped picture of Darwin in a LFC kit.
Time to start the lean thread.
Oh I’m sure Ward got just a little extra in his quarterly bonus packet for that ummmm “indiscretion”
That’s an indestructible tie!
I’d like to publically state that I am no longer interested in Margot Robbie, primarily for the travel distance issues only.

It’s almost as if it’s a coordinated PR effort from United designed to appease their fans.
