Same here. Kane would be ideal for us but I’m not sure he would pass JK’s ‘no dickheads’ rule. Anyway, Joyce is tweeting so Nunez is definitely coming. I genuinely have no idea if he’s any good or not but they usually are so I’m all in on it already.
Yeah something like this. Nunez will be a big focal point, with guys like Diaz et al playing off him and exploiting the spaces he causes by requiring extra defenders to mark him.
Nunez is a big physical goalscorer who I think will love the PL. There are comparisons to Lukaku because of his first touch, but I think they’re a bit wide of the mark. That said, you would trust Klopp and co more than just about anyone to get the best out of him.
The comp mostly stems from a clipped up vid of his bad first touches. On the whole though, I think his first touch is fine for the type of player he is, but can probably improve. To be fair I’m mostly going off of highlight vids as well, I haven’t watched the full ten games of his yet.
He’s really not as big as Haaland though. He’s strong and fast though and the none of the other teams defenders can really keep up with him in the air.
England player. Will count as homegrown and can play for a lot of mid table clubs. I fancy Aston Villa and West Ham to have a punt on him at that price.
And that’s the thing as well, what you mention with the trust they’ve earned. If Nunez is their guy, or Bowen, or whoever; we’re at the point now where I just think they know best anyway.
This is not a disagreement of what you’ve said but even though they are wide players they both score nearly all their goals dead centre and more often than not right in the penalty box. When I think Salah or Mane I think of them cutting back inside onto their favoured foot and scoring a cracking goal from the edge of the box. They’ve certainly happened plenty but I think we as a team probably finish chances from similar locations to most top teams. Its just how we get to that final ball differs to most clubs.
Its the movement from those wide areas and the overlapping play with the FBs that wreaks havoc with defences, pulling them out of position and creating space for our players. How well a traditional CF like Nunez works will be dependent on how well he can either read the spaces to run into to receive the ball or to make intelligent runs to create pockets of space by drawing defenders away for teammates to run into.
If we however do have plans to play a CAM then I think our attacking maps which traditionally show 90% of the buildup coming from wide will definitely change and we may really start to see central avenues to goal become more likely. Wide attacks will still be the majority (why wouldn’t they be when you have Robbo and Trent?) but that percentage will change IMO with a CAM.
