Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

Regardless, I voted… though for the 2nd consecutive election I’m hoping for someone to come out and tell us that this was all a joke, and the 2 real candidates will be announced tomorrow.

You do get good candidates state level or congress and senate, right! It can’t be atrocious at all levels?

You know, it’s true, we do have good candidates for many positions including House of Representatives, Senate, and Governors.
Personally I’m happy with my local and state (for the most part) or at least with the candidates for those positions. Sadly, I don’t know too many people that put the effort into learning as much about state representation or local representation and judges… and those people can have a VERY direct impact on day to day life. I do wish people paid more attention to these elections.

Now don’t get me wrong - I’m not always happiest about which candidate wins, but at least I can respect the desire of the candidate and what they are running for at many of the smaller elected positions.

He’s probably a more dangerous man than Trump. He has strong relationships with organisations that carry out gay conversion therapy and is strongly anti-abortion.

If he walked into a situation where Trump has set him up as an authoriarian, the implications could be horrible because Pence is much more ideological and, probably, much more competant.

Yeah, I suspect him to be the colder, meaner foil to Trump.

When does the results start to come in??? It’s nearly 4 AM here in Bangladesh.

Nothing meaningful before 7 pm Eastern, and 8pm before there is any real volume

There has been a fair amount of talk recently about Republicans jumping ship. You’ve seen little bits of talk from elected Republicans speaking in a way that distanced themselves from Trump in a way they haven’t in 4 years. The Lincoln Project people have even commented on having received resumes from numerous staffers and strategists. If the results come in this evening the way it looks like, meaning we wake up in the morning and a Biden win is all but inevitable but not yet official, it’s going to be fascinating to see the reaction among these people. With trump almost certain to be belligerent in his rhetoric, who is going to jump ship and who is going to double down on trump.

Savage

I can’t watch this. I’m announcing my retirement at a presser and joining @SBYM as a shepherd.

Florida to stay red.

CNN said the Miami votes do not include mail-ins. Given your day off, I’m assuming those votes aren’t getting counted today.

If CNN is right, that’s important.

It is going to be much closer than it should regardless of the result. That is all I take from what I have seen on CNN and BBC so far.

It’s a bit fucking stupid that the votes cast early can’t already have been counted in every state.

Potentially bad news from Florida, Biden is underperforming in the very urban areas, Trump is ahead. This is what the Democrats there say. I am not surprised due to the demography that some of the protests in that area may have burned the Democrats. But we’ll see, it is not over.

Otherwise, it looks promising elsewhere but much to close. In any case, everything is much closer than it should be.
