Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

Most people still don’t really understand what benefits they got from the ACA and mistakenly think it just refers to the creation of a marketplace of policies people can purchase for themselves. Rather, it is a law that covers the entirety of the health insurance system, including the government programs.

But the other thing is the Republicans stumbled upon this novel approach for dealing with it in this election cycle - they just lied about what they want to do safe in the knowledge that the media wont call them liars.

I’m not sure any of this was due to his policies though? Blue States raising the minimum wages seems much more likely.

The significance is that Barr’s order bypassed that official, authorizing them to do so directly and removing any oversight except his own.

Yeah, not only do I not doubt the results cited impacted some voters, but I have spoken to people who said as much. The question is what did Trump do to produce it and how likely were his actions to sustain that. The answer on the former is nothing, as this is the result of state action on minimum wage and the expected result of the tail end of a long period of growth and unemployment. This isn’t in itself a criticism as the best thing a president can do with a decent and growing economy is get the fuck out of the way. But the bigger issue is that the only things Trump did do were geared towards producing different outcomes.

Imho, there are 4 kinds of people who vote for Trump.

  1. Party folks. The media and party brainwashed and ensure that these guys just won’t change their mind whatever happens. They didn’t even care about Trump saying grab them by ***** - coz in their mind, this is just Locker room talk. They didn’t even care when so many died due to poor handling of covid - coz in their mind, this is the max any one can handle covid. There is no media which is neutral. They all supports either one of party and twists the news to suit the agenda.
  2. The wealthy folks who profited from Trump last 4 year and who will profit if he gets elected. And who thinks poor folks should remain poor.
  3. White supremacist. No need to explain this.
  4. C**ts - who take this guy as their role model and think that they can do whatever they do to achieve what they want.
From an outsider perspective - US folks think life is just to enjoy. Schools and Colleges are places for drinks, drugs and sex. Workspace - do all crooked things to earn money. Party all weekend.
It’s not just the political spectrum is having issues. Even as a society, I think they are on the path of destruction and it shows. I have lost all hope for those 70m people and in turn for US. Its looks beyond repair, imho.

Some political scientists and commentators, particularly those who know the GOP very well, point to the chance of Trump managing to pull off a legal coup, with the aid of corrupt GOP cronies, to be 1 percent or more. If that is the truth, perhaps we should stop laughing and start taking this destructive crap seriously. Even if Trump gets no where, there is incalculable damage in 90% of GOP voters actually believing in the conspiracy theories. To me, there is not any fun left. Press conferance at Four Season Landscaping was of course hilarious, but imo time to take this stuff seriously again. And a 1 in 100 chance ? I don’t like those odds.

I don’t really like it when boring people like William Kristol are alarmed. They know the GOP better than most, they were its previous ideological core:

I am getting a bit worried to be honest. I don’t care about Trump’s tweets other than that they damage the electorate and US society sociopolitically with conspiracy theories, but I worry when he stacks the cards in his admin like this.He is certainly not preparing for defeat, he is preparing for sustained offensive operations, and although he likely won’t succeed, the damage will be immense and cannot be understated.

We are on a journey into the unknown, the election battle may be over, but the war is not. The enemy has reserves to channel into new counter-offensives.
Personally, I will be very happy the day this is over and I can stop reading conservative twitter.

Disunited States of America would probably be a more accurate name for them during the current times.
