On a personal level it’s going great and I couldn’t be happier to be over here. One of the advantages of being in Maine is it feels a little detached from the rest of the US.
Politically I hate it but the whole world has gone ga-ga for right wing authoritarians so where else could I go?!

Yeah, Maine people are decent. I have family in NB just across the border, never felt that different.
We all wanted a big win. Didn’t happen. Now I’m hoping this is the political equivalent of winning ugly, but at the end of the day the three points is all that matters.

I completely agree, and I am massively disappointed living here with this.
Still… I now don’t have the luxury of lamenting no big win, not while the game is still on. Now it’s about just getting the right result, which is obviously a Trump loss. Fingers crossed,

Sorry that I am a downer. Wish I wasn’t, but it’s depressive to me. I view this result as very important for us Norwegians too. And when I say that, I mean that it is more important than the Corona virus. That is how I view it.
Trump holds Iowa, which means Ernst likely keeps her seat there too. Shitty

Trump said he wanted to wait to fire Fauci, just as one example.
A lot of people on the front lines of dealing with this in the US are going to walk away now, take care of themselves, because they now have no hope - nothing to wait for. Morale at CDC was already rock bottom, people will just leave.

A woman I went to grad school with in NC has been working GOTV for the Democrats. Had her tires slashed this weekend. Has seen obvious examples of racially-based vote suppression (black senior citizens no longer able to drive due to eyesight). Utterly defeated tonight, she asked if I have a spare bedroom.
We do, but she cannot even cross the border.
