Trump claiming victory, this is going to be ugly. The president claims that votes counted after polls have been closed are illegal. He is going to raise hell.
True to form he is only doing what he promised not to do just 6 hours ago.
It will play well with his base and possibly could increase the likelihood of violence post-election but it won’t change the vote counting process.
I know but it still means something. It still means something that the state leader of the United States bullshits like that, it matters, and it has consequences. Maybe not in the US, but elsewhere certainly.
I know why he does what he does, but it still matters. It is still a significant statement from the president of the United States even though he will lose in court etc.
Looks very much like a Trump win

Some massive geopolitical consequences if this holds. The US is simply no longer reliable, NATO is in practical terms defunct as constructed since 1948. For Taiwan, for Europe, etc., the US is now part of the uncertainty, not the resolution. In Canada, I am no longer remotely convinced that spending $12B on an early warning system for the Arctic makes any sense. We know the missiles those sites would detect are not headed to Montreal, they are headed to the US. We know that that the US will not act to defend our interests, not even backing us up in a conflict with China instigated by their own actions.
Exactly, it is worse than dire. Much worse. It is the worst scenario imaginable for geopolitical stability.
On the bright side, Trump is no longer vulnerable to whatever kompromat the Russians had.
CNN just called Texas. Fewer and fewer states being contested now.
Bizarre.
Just. Bizarre.
If he does win…IF… is it just me ( I’m extremely uneducated AND reasonably uninterested on the matter) or have the Democrats spent too long trying to get trump voted out, instead of themselves voted in?
Even then…I mean… Biden? Really? That’s the guy?.. he’s the best you can get?
Historically, empires in collapse are often something to behold, but the rot in America truly goes deep into the very soul. For the rest of the world, if Trump indeed wins and worst case scenario materializes, it will be an awful ride on a roller coaster into the unknown. The consequences will be just so incredibly dire. It is impossible to overstate.
It makes the detachment of the UK from Europe all the more troubling. An alternative centre of gravity has already been weakened.
Precisely what I had said. The focus unfortunately has been how bad Trump was, not how better they can bring US to be. And believe it or not, this constant bleating on how bad Trump is can actually be misconstrued as childish attacks by some neutrals and push them to vote for Trump instead.
Yes, I am at some unease speculating, but if Trump indeed wins, European governments can no longer play the waiting game they have previously played, pretending that Trump does not represent the US, as a reelection reveals the truth. What happens then with NATO is hard to forecast. That and so, so much else. But it will all be incredibly negative and only negative.
Nah, I think that is a nonsense take. It is often true, but the Democrats had an easy version of the ‘we would do this’ argument, simply by taking the pandemic seriously they were setting out a clear alternative. They made it, and appear to have lost.
I think this CNN piece reveals a lot, Americans have given up hope of facing the coronavirus.
Ironically, they use the term ‘sheep’ as an insult, while showing the profoundly ovine behaviour of returning to grazing as soon as the predator is no longer immediately visible.
I think Biden is ahead in Arianna and NE2 isn’t he?
Does not look likely
Trump got leads in three of those states.
Wisconsin (87% counted) 4 point lead - 10 votes
Michigan (64% counted) 9 point lead - 16 votes
Georgia ( 89% counted) 5 point lead - 16 votes
Don’t see it. US politics and advertising is much more aggressive than in other parts of the world (particularly Asia). Trump’s campaign offered nothing but attacks.
To make matters worse (if that’s even possible) Republicans are going to have majority as well.
For WI and MI, the urban areas are always later, and always heavily Democratic.
What is likely is that tomorrow will be a day of legal rat-fuckery. There is now a significant interest in some quarters in ensuring that the WIsconsin and Michigan tallies remain right where they are.
