Number 4…
What would be the point of AOC refusing to support the smaller stimulous cheques now, when in a matter of weeks there will be a Democrat President in place signing off much bigger ones?
AOC would easily meet the definitions of the left in many places outside the US - unless by ‘left’ you mean those who are so far from everyone else and are not willing to find common ground.
AOC and Bernie would be pretty average Social Democrats in most parts of Europe and Biden would be a conservative.
The question of police collusion is deeply troubling. I saw the event unfold live on the BBC, and the moment the crowd surged up the steps I was shouting at the tv ‘where are the cops?’. It is pretty obvious by now that there were plenty who stood by at least. It is very dangerous for the future. What will happen at the inauguration for example. There needs to be strong action taken, and soon.
That’s pretty bad and I hope it doesn’t get any worse.
Watching that though it’s apparent that white Americans are actually pretty shit at rioting.
Where are the bandanas around their faces? The smoke flares? The rock throwing? The tipping over of vehicles? Looting? Setting things on fire? Yep, they’ve still got a lot to learn from the rest of the world!
Hitting cops with flag poles is amateur hour.
There’s a rumour going around that Arnold has posted a heart felt plea to Americans…
Anyone got a link?
They had pepper spray and pipe bombs too. This was just the beginning, next time there will be escalation and they are heavily armed. There’s no room for complacency.
Pepper spray is definitely up there for a riot. The pipe bombs are something altogether different though, that’s not rioting, that’s terrorism.
Still the matter of the senate majority was still to be decided then. The Georgia election was still to happen. What would have been the guarantee that the incoming president would have the senate majority with him to give the USD 2000 package ?
I think he might have misjudged the mood.
Mod team right now
The Modi rule aside which has gone way too right for my liking. It would be pretty much the case in India too. Even the BJP under Vajpayee would be center-right. We never did extremes well, that is until Modi decided to upend the structure and take India down this road. Imagine taking the populism that Indian politics always had and gearing that up to the majority while feeding the vitriol. That’s what Modi has done, And in a way, Trump has mirrored Modi and Erdogan policies there in the US too

That makes even less sense to block the smaller figure then. If there is a good chance of the smaller support package being passed, and virtually none of the medical reform or a higher package, then rejecting it in favour of pushing for those two things makes little sense unless you are virtue signalling. Even if the Democrats hadn’t gained control of the senate, It would have allowed AOC to actively campaign for those increased offerings
Secondly, AOC has been targeted by republicans as being both a virtue signaller and someone not willing to work with others. Why reinforce a negative stereotype - particularly when it isnt true.
Finally, there is the angle involving the remaining two elections in Georgia - AOC doing what you suggest could have negatively affected Ossler and Warnock’s campaigns there.
Lets talk about six
