McConnell saying that Trump was responsible for the riots and is subject to criminal law now. Republicans are walking on a thin line on this. By ousting trump, they risked losing their support, by leaving him in the ring the consequences are obvious, Trump will be reenergised and could take over the party again. In a few years they could be right back in the middle of the shit show circus that we’ve just seen the end of.
Not sure how successful any criminal proceedings might be, and if they are, how that would affect his ability to take office again.
They really should be asking themselves how they, as part of U.S history since time immemorial , have managed to tie their support almost irrevocably to the antics and delusions of one man in just four years.
The events of 6 January are done and dusted in terms of responsibility, I reckon.
He might feel some civil blowback from the family of some poor sod who died on the day or killed himself afterwards, but I doubt even that. No way will criminal charges stick, not in the US.
IMO, the biggest threat to him now are the legal bean-counters, and perhaps the Georgia phone call.
I wonder how many of them have committed political suicide by either believing the bile or choosing to choosing to get into bed with it?
Not so sure. There has to be an inquiry into how the event took place and how it got so out of hand. Questions about how rioters were allowed in by some of the security, why the response took so long, and how come the plot went undetected have to be answered and there’s a lot to come out in the open. We haven’t heard the last of it, and it’s extremely likely that Trump will be tainted along the way (as if he wasn’t already). It’s unbelievable that in a country where you can be sued for someone burning their tongue on a cup of coffee, no one will be held responsible for this act of treason.
I hope you’re right, knackers. I really do.
Very interesting development. Trump is now aiming for complete domination of the Republican party and there’s not much to stand in his way.
Could that lead to a fracturing on that side of US politics?
Moderate Republicans are caught between a rock and a hard place. A lot of them won’t ever be able to bring themselves to vote Democrat, but are also horrified by the direction the party is going. The two party system doesn’t offer a place for them.
In other systems governments are coalitions of varying factions, and the argument is that in a two party system the parties themselves are coalitions, but if one faction takes over a party there is no place for dissidents to go. Obviously multi party systems have their issues too and are often lacking in stability, Italy springs to mind, but some kind of middle way is probably best. The US system is rooted in the late 18th century and is not fit for the 21st. There needs to be major reform, which isn’t going to happen any time soon. The Democrats can’t even agree to get rid of the filibuster, so the chance of them confronting the electoral college are negligible.
Useless skill developed in lockdown #1,274. Correctly identifying where the 50 US states are without borders in less than 80 seconds (76 is the quickest I’ve done it in)…
It amazing to me that they are trying to shift blame to the ‘socialist government’ barely three weeks after taking power.
Nothing amazing here, this is Texas, where anything left of Attila the Hun is ‘socialist’
So Genghis Khan would be…

Rush Limbaugh is dead. 2021 is off to a promising start all things considered.
