I think that the chance for a two-state solution has gone already. Israel are almost everywhere in Cisjordania and effectively control Gaza as some sort of big-scale working camp. It was a bad idea in the first place, and as you say, has become almost impossible to achieve as we speak. The only chance for me is to unite all these territories, and impose a 100% laic state for the Palestinians and the Israelis, with religious freedom for everyone and the same rights for all.
The only state who could impose this is of course the US, with the help of the UN, but for some obscure reason, your successive governments prefer entertaining religious fanaticism on both sides.
This is a real problem, because a reasoned criticism of Israel for it’s obvious, abhorrent behaviour towards the Palestinians isn’t antisemitism at all. The people who mix these two things up should really get their ideas right, and maybe it’s time that people in Germany and also elsewhere wake up and smell the coffee.
It’s really no hapahazard that antisemitism is always brought up by people like Netanyahu, as soon as their dirty actions get in the firing line of international criticism. Netanyahu knows how to push these buttons, but I for one regret that such a strong lady like Merkel for instance never found the courage to state things as they are. Because anyone staying silent is actually supporting the blatant cruelty and injustice of the current situation.
This, 100%. However, the Palestinians evicted and living in refugee camps in neighboring countries (mostly in Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan) should be allowed to return.
Forget about the possibilities and feasibility of two states based on religion, two such states will be constantly bickering like India and Pakistan.
The party that always shout about blue lives matter, scream about the constitution and shag the flag in public are inevitably not in the least bit interested in any of those things.
In a sense it is already being fought culturally, and politically, but not militarily. So for me it falls short of a proper civil war. More of a shitshow perhaps?
Id like to , but last time I voiced my opinion I was banned . I had people accusing me of being far right which couldn’t be further from the truth. I used to watch football to forget about politics and all the other turmoil in the world but that’s impossible now because football has become political . I’m sorry now that I even commented on this thread and I’d really like to just stick to the odd comment in the football threads.
Ok conservatives, as you’re here, can you explain why there should not be an investigation into the invasion of the Capitol? I’d like to hear what possible arguments there could be against it. Thanks.
There’s certainly been an investigation by the Justice Department through the FBI, bringing many cases against the rioters who committed crimes inside the Capitol. What’s troubling is why no cases have been brought against Trump and his inner circle for inciting the rioters. I suspect that’s because Justice doesn’t believe it could win convictions, and they loathe bringing a case they don’t believe they can win. Same question in Atlanta, Georgia where the Fulton County D.A. was investigating Trump’s comments to the Secretary of State about “finding” the votes to overturn. That’s a liberal prosecutor’s office; yet no indictment. Same reason, probably. They don’t believe the case is strong enough to win.
As to having Congress carry out some months long “investigation,” it would obviously just waste time and money. Congress has no power to indictment and is so riven with politics that nothing constructive could come of it. Witness Benghzai hearings. Useless.
Well, there could be some improvements in the security arrangements and surely the behaviour of certain elected officials is worth investigating. This was an unprecedented event and not something to be swept under the carpet.
I haven’t seen anyone get banned for expressing a conservative viewpoint. It’s possible I’m naive, or misremembering, but I doubt very much someone would be banned for a different viewpoint that is within the gamut of fair game.
If someone is pro life, pro business, pro small government, in favour of cutting as much red tape as possible, in favour of cutting taxes, in favour of a strong defence… these are the usual conservative policies, then what’s the big deal?
Argue the case, and vive la difference! Makes for a more interesting life.
But if someone was racist? I could see them getting banned.
Being a cock? Persistently? I could see them getting banned.
Etc.
But for a conservative viewpoint? I struggle to see that, tbh. And if it did happen, I would imagine it was for something else.
The truth is always a good thing. When something as seismic as the Capitol invasion happens, it needs to be looked at properly.
There are lots of issues. Insider help? Slow response? People actively trying to kill the Vice President - if ever there was an example of what a conservative looks like in America, btw, it is Mike Pence. Much more of a conservative than Trump. And yet the mob was chanting about finding him and executing him? And various politicians were scurrying inside for their lives?
The whole thing just looked terrible, and it was.
If the Republicans claim to be the party of law and order, the party who is pro police, and so on, then this was approximately the opposite of that!
Bringing political conviction in the United States is nigh on impossible, as there is so much bad faith in politics. So I can understand the reticence to open up a commission.
But to me it is settling for mob rule, and the rule of law gets farther away.
