they’re still e-mailing people about mcgrath being in a dead heat with mcconnell, so they can milk more donations from #resistance rubes on the coasts. pelosi’s father was a machine hack and she’s in her position because of her fundraising ability
biden doesn’t even talk about the public option any more, the messaging has consistently been that they’re going to strengthen obamacare–which the supreme court is going to invalidate. the dnc’s hacks & paid trolls are already blaming susan sarandon
their response to trump has been to coalesce around a braindead reactionary who’s explicitly running against trump’s tone and on restoring the grotesque status quo that produced trump
the donor class doesn’t mind trump’s policy, and the donor class are the only people who matter to party leadership
it’s also disgusting how the response to nationwide protests against police brutality has been badgering people to VOTE (for crime bill biden & the ‘top cop’)
The public option is a core part of Biden’s attempt to bolster and improve on Obamacare. He fully embraced it on national TV only last week in front of an audience of tens of millions of people. It is the first bullet point on his campaign’s page about his health care plan.
There are tons of area where Biden is critical of Trump beyond tone and offers a clear contrast, such it’s just a really bizarre criticism to throw. I don’t know whose criticisms of Biden are more bizarre, those from Fox news who cant decide if he has dementia or will lead us into a Mao like Great Leap Forward, or those of the online progressives.
It’s fair comment to want a more progressive Democrat than Biden, but the choice before us now is Biden or Trump. To my mind if Biden wins it doesn’t get us to where we want to be, but it does at least stop us hurtling down the wrong path after a conman who is wholly unsuited for the job and unfit for office.
That’s my point. It’s Biden or fascism one week…Ya man did the same whataboutism in the trump thread it’s annoying as fuck. The dems will never be anything more than middle of the road lib/cons,it’s what america is.There is no relevant place for a national labour style socialist party.
“Orange man bad” is the best point there is and the best point anyone ever could make. That’s your choice, been crystal clear since the primaries. Liberalism or Neo-fascism. Deal with it. Seriously.
If you don’t vote you give your support to the other side, it is that simple and it is undeniable logical.
You seem to not fear Trump enough, that is crystal clear. If you don’t vote for Biden you will be directly responsible if Trump wins. The “he/she has to earn my vote” is egocentric in the extreme. Much too much is at stake for ideological purity of any sort.
Again,Liberalism or nepotistic Neo-fascism, that’s your choice, socialism isn’t on the menu. If you think liberalism is as bad as Neo-fascism then I don’t know what to think.
I would much rather we had Bernie Sanders and the Dems were more progressive. But bugger me… wah wah wah… should I cry bout it?
The choice we actually have is Trump v Biden.
It’s a no brainer.
Trump needs to be ejected, plain and simple. He is a conman, racist, charlatan, unfit for office. Biden isn’t where I ultimately want to be… but he is massively preferable to Trump.
As an outsider, this might sound too idealistic but neither Trump nor Biden is good for the US, neither the Democrats nor the Republicans, at least not in the current incarnation, is good for the US. I am surprised with all the protests, there are no more prominent mass protests that are calling out the the demolition of both these traditional parties and for someone out there who is not ‘either you are blue or red.’ Its getting tedious and tiresome watching the debates or the politics at times, when they are more interested to fight for their own party rather than their citizens. Its tiresome when any social movements or protests regarding social issues always become either a Republican or Democrat issue. Voting for Biden or Trump is a lose lose situation for Americans but of course I will still think everyone should vote, whether you want to vote Trump or Biden, that is how elections are. But maybe one day, the system will change and there is truly someone who can unite America.
Under normal times, normal leaders I could understand that logic. Its typically vote for person A or B based on which you feel will make the country better. But if disillusioned with both, won’t bother.
But at the moment you have a leader activity destroying things you are passionate about. Something you know will only continue. He will negatively influence your future. So why not try and stop it ?
Its seems like you are cutting your nose off to spite your face. Taking a moral high ground, that is more likely to have negative consequences for your health, environment and community. I would also argue a further 4 years of regressive rather than progressive or even status quo policies could set the US back decades from a more socialist perspective you hold.
You should still vote, don’t waste your right to determine your own future.
But I hope in the near future, there will be a change to the system. Vote based on what is important to you and not to spite the other half. In Singapore, we had our elections recently too and I cannot believe that there are people asking people to vote for the opposition in those wards they were contesting since “don’t worry, the incumbent will still be the government, other people will vote them in”. Its like saying, lets add shit into yogurt because I want to see some colors.
Vote based on the information you have, you believe in, even if they are dodgy but you have to base your vote somehow. Make a rational choice, not an emotional one. But yet, Vote, don’t sit back and waste your chance to be heard and then complain later on.
Reading your posts here make me understand far better the issues menacing democracy in your country. So, thank you for that.
At the same time, the lads above are right. If you have to chose between an opportunist who will continue with an Obama-like type of liberalism, and a half-fascist oligarch who will do nothing but further destroying the democratic institutions and serve himself and his billionaire cronies (while also weakening any kind of international cooperation for all the hot topics needing to be tackled at world scale), then you have no choice unfortunately.
You bite the bullet and vote for the former, even if you don’t like him. Voting for a president is also not only voting for a man, but it’s voting for everything and everyone behind him. Are you for an anti-abortion law for instance? Do you want to see millions of poor people deprived of their current healthcare insurance? Do you want to see all international cooperation further weakened by the absence of your country? Do you want to see blatant racism and intolerance prosper and become dominant?
If not, you don’t have a choice but to vote for Biden, he’s the lesser of two evils.
Also, having a genuine voting right is a privilege, and at the same time a duty imo. Many people on this earth are deprived of this. So, don’t squander it.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
If you vote for someone that does not represent the way you feel about politics, that you know will not bring about any real change, that prioritises the wellbeing of themselves and their mates over your wellbeing, then you are being complicit in a rigged system. You are encouraging politicians of all persuasions to continue doing exactly what they have been doing for nearly a century.
I just cannot and will not put my name to it.
George Carlin sums it up in these two clips - note they are Not Work Safe - a lot of bad language!
Back in November the UK had a choice between a known liar and a lazy c*** and a full on socialist with about as much leadership oomph as a crisps wrapper and possibly some other issues I wont mention
We chose the liar on the back of yet another lie. In the following year, thousands have died needlessly, billions has been siphoned off to private donors of the Tory party and lord knows where else. Our civil service is being torn down, our economy has literally gone down the toilet and poverty divide continues to increase.
The highlighted bit isn’t really the topic of this election, is it? You have two choices: one which is pretty much going back to a form of conservatism like you had under Obama (far from ideal I know if you are further on the left of the political spectrum), and another one which could see a lot of change happening in the next four years, but do you support these changes?
Edit: I also have doubts about these theories claiming that Trump and Biden are two facets of the same piece. Until a degree, it might be true, but I don’t think that the US (and the world) will look the same in four years whatever the results of this election. There will be big, and possibly decisive differences.
Yet has the full support of the Sunrise Movement for his green energy agenda because they appreciate that pulling the plug on fossil fuels immediately with no transition is madness.
