For all the talk (mostly from me) of how De Santis has clearly modelled his mannerisms on Trump, it was remarkable seeing Josh Shaprio, the guy who just won the governorship in PA, get a national stage the last week or so and how much he sounds like Obama with the way he talks. It’s partly the story telling quality of his speeches where he wraps up his policy into a statement on values, but there are moments where if you close your eyes you could mistake him for a comedian doing an Obama bit. You know he spent a LONG time purposefully trying to mimic that.
I’m relishing the possibility of the shit slinging between these two.
Smash em. They’re shit
An estimated $17bn spent and the joint is split right down the middle, with compromise seemingly as far away as ever.
If it was a marriage you’d just shut up shop, wouldn’t ya?
It’s not you, it’s me.
If the republicans dropped their abortion stance, they’d white wash it. No pun intended.
That’s like saying ‘if the nazis dropped their anti-semitism they’d be a reasonable bunch’.
I think that completely misses out how central the abortion movement has been to building the current GOP coalition since the Clinton Presidency. Without it, they would be back to the old ‘party of the rich’ tag.
You forget Autocracy and Nationalism, which is their new wine. But yes.
Autocracy is where it has perhaps ended up, and nationalism has set out the colour scheme. But how exactly the GOP has been able to build a coalition that includes some of the most economically disadvantaged populations in the US as their most loyal and extreme supporters isn’t explained by either of those.
True enough.
Same way the people most adversely affected by Brexit voted to leave. Blatant misinformation
… and have lots of babies."
There’s a blinking illness going around american presenters and commentators!
Isn’t that a sign of lying in america according to facial reading experts?
Republicans would probably have control of senate if they had electable candidates. Dr. Oz in PA and Herschel Walker in GA were really awful choices for two very important swing states. GA was dying to vote red and they couldn’t do it. They still might get there in run off, but you’re making the red half of the state hold their nose while they vote.
No, it’s deeper than that. Their form of nationalism is one that explicitly does not include certain groups of Americans and so when your politics is presented as a zero sum game, that inherently pits the situation as them being bad for you. The GOP then stands as the force that is going to work to keep those people down so there is more of the pie for you, the real American. Disinformation is definitely central in the stories used to illustrate how unamerican the “they” are, but it still wouldn’t work without that interaction between society being seen as zero sum and the real American vs them distinction that drives Republican politics.
One thing I’ve noticed is that they’re definitely obsessed with purple haired people. Orange on the other hand seems to be fine.
In a strange way this seems similar to how the “Raj” is seen - a ruling class of yester year that never quite was as it is perceived now and yet is seen as something to admire and use as a “Look how great we were? And, can be again!”. Just don’t glance too closely at the details…
Wasserman isnt quote the NV expert that Ralston is, but he’s probably the next most reliable guy out there for reading these tea leaves and is now being very bullish over Cortez Masto giving the Dems the win there
