There’s certainly no guarantee Trump will be the Republican nominee, in spite of what the polls say now. If Biden wants to run, fine, but he should have vigorous opposition to demonstrate he’s still capable. Lots of risk in letting him just dotter his way to an uncontested nomination. The guy’s going to be 82 on election day.
I like Buttigieg, and think he has the makings of a future President.
Intelligence for days, former military, compassionate and kind, decent orator, debater, command of policy, young, fairly moderate in relation to the likes of AOC.
I also really like AOC but I don’t think America would go for her, though she would offer a proper left wing choice.
Certainly ambitious but perhaps not likely to run against a president in whose administration he is serving. I’ve read Gov. Youngkin of Virginia is tempted. I believe the challenge would be more likely to come from the ranks of governors or perhaps a senator like Klobuchar, though she is up for re-election and would probably focus on that campaign.
Who’s running against Biden now? Just Marianne Williamson and RFK Jr. Will Biden even bother to debate them?
It is a tricky situation, because of the norm of letting a sitting President run for re-election. It is not the strongest norm, but it is there - and rejecting it is seen as a rejection of the Administration. I don’t think there are many Democrats who want to take that position.
I believe you left an “innit” out.
A Hill friend of mine is certain that the only reason Klobuchar has done anything around this possibility is preparing to jump in quickly if Biden chooses not to run. She’s probably not too concerned about winning re-election, but her timing is a lot better for a 2028 run.
Mayor Pete is the perfect Democratic candidate. Smart as a whip, great ideas, devastating in debate, and utterly unelectable. The one thing the GOP has over the Democratic party is an understanding that vibes win elections, not smart policy ideas.
Younkin is a Republican. And is a MAGA Republican at that (just with a vest, so people pretend he isnt MAGA).
On that line though, I get the feeling Whitmer is being primed to stand in if needed. She has a good policy record, and seems to have the right level of charisma, but more importantly has a narrative. Policy idea or record without a narrative that can be spun around that hits people in the feels is meaningless. I think she ticks the boxes and has made it clear she is aware of the interest in her running but is keeping a respectful distance from the conversation.
Jeff Jackson has been impressive in his use of social media. He’s a new congressman but looks a rising star for the Democrats.
Haha. Oops! See! Age is no advantage. Like Joe, I sometimes get confused.
Human emotion is a blessing but also one of our biggest curses.
Graham is a vile person and an inveterate liar.
And even regular Republicans don’t support a blanket abortion ban.
Like so many others , he sold his soul to Trump. I hope to fuck he gets pulled into a racketeering charge down in Georgia.
Ballot initiatives are an increasingly common form of direct democracy here that gives voters a way to force something through the legislature that is popular but that the elected officials wont take up. There are typically rules about how much support something needs to get on a ballot and then separate rules about what numbers the initiative needs to get approved.
In Missouri the latter is 50% of the votes cast. The legislature wants to increase that to 60% to pass an initiative, but that itself needs to be passed by a ballot initiative. They just approved one that will be on the next ballot, but the official wording doesnt remotely describe what it is. Instead it focuses on the qualification of the voters, asking voters to affirm something that pretty much everyone will agree with. They will be asked a question to which they answer yes, and then something completely unrelated will be enacted.
Just wanted to comment on local politics, for the City Council.
There’s an election coming up for this where I live, next month. Candidates are mobilizing and going door to door and all that good stuff.
I live in a very Republican area, but whisper it quietly, it is a lot closer than many Republicans assume it to be.
Anyway, what a lovely surprise. The lady who is running as a candidate is from England. Rochdale. She saw I had a Liver bird on my t-shirt when I answered the door, and we enjoyed a bit of banter about that.
She is running as a Democrat, is a graduate of Oxford University, and speaks five languages. I told her I would vote for her (I know the Republican Mayor) and I wished her well.
All seems like part of the plan to take this land back, and get them going on the right path… lol.
There has been a brewing scandal here with the revelation of the extent of immigrant child labor that is occurring, with questions about how much the White House knew, or should have known, about the problem. Republicans are up in arms and Susan Rice is seemingly being forced to leave her role as Biden’s senior domestic policy advisor over it.
Also Republicans
In this case, their cries of “think of the children” is really a cry that these immigrants are stealing the jobs of American children.
Tucker Carlson has left FOX with immediate effect.
you won’t get killed in San Fran but the street gangs will rob you blind. yep, really safe place.

Crime stats reported without context or baseline, bolstered by a news report using the anecdote and vibe based framing the article is identifying as problematic is not really a refutation of the point being made.
Weirdly, and Lemon out at CNN. That one is a bit more expected given what is happening at CNN and his falling profile, but it seems to have happened under weird circumstances and was announced on the same morning
The only thing that might surprise more would be the Christians firing Jesus as their leader.
