Diogo JOTA: 2020/21

Yeah not his best, nice to his direct running. He has also got the nice ability to deflect the ball of other players.

What’s his best position? Last night he was deployed centrally, but I feel he is more comfortable cutting in from the left.

I thought he was pretty good actually, particularly in the first half. His passing was much better than the last couple of games and his run for the shot on goal was great.

He’s good at creating space for himself, direct, brave, good balance, finds ways in tight situations.

Sometimes lacks more finesse. Should’ve went far post with the chance he had, it was clear to see even before the replay.

I look at him like a busy little chicken with and without the ball, best either from the inside left channel or operating more centrally.

If Bobby is dropping to the bench, then I’d do Jota on the left, Salah on the right and Mane through the middle. I think Sadio is closest in the squad to bringing what Bobby offers.

Would be surely between Jota and Mane, yeah.

That could also depend on style, to which point they have evolved, form, the opponent, etc. So far, we rotated a little bit, though Jota has played central more than Mane. But they can even rotate in games, leaving Mo in his best role as the inside right goalscorer and them two combining/swapping from the left/central.

What I think Klopp felt is still important is to have Mane in his best position. Hopefully with a first break this summer in a good few years, he can return to his best (or at least close to it/better than this season) next season.

I don’t think Salah would be our 1st choice striker in a 4-3-3 (unless we end some high profile games and just rely on counter attacks like City away or Madrid), not under Klopp. Only when we flip to 4-2-3-1, but when we flip to it from time to time, I don’t think we’ll change our principal formation.

But then, we’ll also see which type of forward/striker we bring in this summer. That will be interesting.

We know it’s probably Konate for CB. Bissouma or someone of that type at least to replace Gini. Up top we still have no reliable links.

Mbappé :sunglasses:

Joking aside, I feel Jota would be someone very comfortable playing off a typical striker.

But what Bobby brings hasnt been working so well recently and I’m not just talking about this season.

One thing Jota does is he doesn’t try and take more touches than he needs.

He just accelerates the game instead of slowing it down, same thing really.

So he is the opposite of Wijnaldum

Jota wasn’t very impressive at the Euro. In fact, he was getting a bit dull in the later part of the season.

Considering he didn’t play too much, it can’t be fatigue. Hope Klopp sorts him out during the preseason.

He can get another rest now, no worries!
