Diogo Jota (LW) Wolves

I don’t thing Klopp buys a player for such a lot of money only as a backup option.
Our front three will always be the first names on the teamsheet. If one of them has a bad day in the office Jota will replace him I think. Given games coming thick and fast Jota will get enough gametime.

Is this forward planning to lose one of Sadio or Mo in a season or more?

Just on Hoever, how do you think this sort of thing happens? LFC clearly saw they weren’t in the budget bracket Wolves were looking for, do they approach Hoever and tell him ’ I’ve got a deal you can’t refuse’? Do you think Hoever has asked the club at the start of the window that he’s looking for more first team football and is willing to go on loan or be sold and that’s why they asked him? I’m just trying to work out the level of push there is from the football club to do a player swap + cash which is effectively what this is.
Hoever obviously had a contract with us so we couldn’t force him out, so I guess he had already expressed his desire to leave in one form or the other?

Hope Jota signs, I may have not seen him much but he for me has stood out as a player when I have watched Wolves and a player that I thought had the right pace, power and work ethic to cause teams problems. For me a great fit

He had the same thought. And these things are often planned well in advance.

It’s the right way to do it though. I’ve never thought for a second that Mo or Sadio would finish their careers here. My hope is always for a smooth transition.

I think it’s forward planning for a very congested season and the real potential of playing 4-2-3-1 much more than we have in the past.

When games need freshening up, I’ll be much more confident bringing on Jota than Origi. I think he’ll fit in nicely and we finally have someone to lighten the load on front 3 in terms of minutes. All very interchangeable now.

I’ve read this morning that Hoever had let it be known that he wanted to play some first-team football - be it here or somewhere else - and that was our trigger for trying to sort out something like this for him.

To be fair to the lad, over the past season he’s seen Neco overtake him for the RB slot and now looking like Koumetio has overtaken him for a CB spot, so this season he’s further from the first team than 12 months ago.

Honest question? Would a player express his desire to leave a full 12 months before he plans to? I know I wouldn’t be telling my employer that. There are ways as a player they can’t avoid letting the cat out of the bag ie Not signing a new contract. But I don’t think this is the case with Mo. Did Sadio end up signing a new deal?

Not just saying this just because we sold him but he’s chosen a pretty good club for progressing his career.

I dont think there has been any such expressions, was just asking the question based on the obvious desirability of some of our forwards to the super-clubs, like Real et al. Zidane has already expressed an interest in Sadio.

I wouldn’t see why this couldn’t be a pre emptive move to prepare a replacement in case mane or Salah goes. That being said, its especially great because they are doing it this season so we still have Mane/Salah and we can assess Jota properly and bed him into the team.

With the complexities of the Hoever situation and the complexities of the payment structures that have been agreed on the deals this is why I’m convinced this has been getting negotiated for at least weeks and maybe months. The talks regarding Hoever may even have been why Billy the Kid was given those first chances then such a concerted push to confirm he really was a decent option. Not saying he didn’t show promise but the efforts were quite transparent even though there was some hit and miss in his performances. He was given those chances to push through and iron out some creases in his game in a short time frame almost like to get him ready quickly. The way Pearce and some others are spinning it (probably to cover up their ignorance it was happening) is it was all done very quick and suddenly. No way Edwards rang Wolves about Jota just as Wolves were ringing about Hoever and everything just happened at the same time by pure coincidence. The payment structures would have taken a lot of negotiating over a long time period.

The club have a chat with players every season about their career. Hoever has spoken openly about wanting first team games sooner rather than later, given he was entering his last 2 years of his contract with us, I can see the push for this move coming from his camp. Pearce certainly implied that his camp were in favour of this move and it wasn’t simply a case of us pushing someone out.

Good, we had to improve the squad and obviously Klopp wanted it, but he is not like Mourinho speaking out in the media and constantly complaining about the lack of new signings. Now a central defender and we are done with our summer business.

Tsmikas, Jota and Taigo means we have spent around 80 mln. pounds /depending on activating the bonuses in all deals/. I fully expect to see the club recuperate a minimum of 50 mln. pounds at the end of the transfer window. Lovren /11 mln. pounds/, Hoever /9-13,5 mln. pounds/, Ejaria /3,5 mln. pounds/ are just the start. I think that Brewster, Shaqiri, Wilson, Karius, Grjuic, Philips and maybe Wijnaldum and Origi will be sold.

Still have the strange feeling that the club could sell one between Naby and Ox, especially if Gini signs a contract extension. The signing of Tiago is a clear warning to Keita and AOC. They must improve or a transfer to other teams becomes more and more possible.

Jota is an interesting signing, he is not a typical forward, NES always plays with 3 at the back and wing backs. Jota was used as a forward or playing behind Raul. He is a hard working player with great technique, vision, pretty fast /but not at the same bracket as Mane, Salah or Traore/. He is not a typical wide player. Let’s say that he is more Salah than Mane. For example Sarr is a typical winger, faster and stronger, while Jota has the better vision, technique and is the better passer. Probably he plays smarter /but that is mainly do to his age and experience/.

I was hoping for a typical winger, but Jota is not a disappointment for me. Vice versa, he is a very exciting player and it will be very interesting to see how our manager will use his best qualities.

I feel this is probably going to linger in the minds of some of us. I do hope they don’t make this sale during this window. If need be maybe January. I would be more inclined to selling Naby then AOC. Simply because AOC has been here longer and has shown he can contribute in the goals department.

AOC is injured, there is very little chance he is sold now. January, maybe. Looks a mountain for him to climb to find a way back into team now.

Keita has been far more consistent than AOC. Chamberlain chips in with the odd goal but he is otherwise pretty terrible, I think he’s just had one injury too many.

Check Keita’s stats on understat.com - he’s doing well when he plays.

I think it does happen. clubs have agreed arrangements upto a year in advance before. It may just a case of a player saying that if a bid comes in from x, he would like to consider it. So we can’t rule out completely that club are making preparations for a player to leave next summer. Clubs do communicate with each other more than we realise.

But I think the Jota deal was a genuine effort to improve quality of depth, and help resolve the question mark around the AFCON issue.

Yes, sadio I think did sign a new deal.
