Be fair though. The players don’t all come oven ready. Mane wouldn’t have been the player he is now if he’d gone to Utd. Salah wouldn’t be had he gone back to Chelsea. The recruitment’s great but the coaching at Liverpool has to be the best in the world right now. I’m always excited to see what JK and Ljinders can do with players. No guarantees with Jota of course but he’ll never have a better chance to become a world class player.
For me (and I’m not making it up I said it in the Sarr thread before the Jota news broke) he was like Lewis and Tsimikas. Jota and Tsimikas were who we really wanted and kept quiet or mostly quiet. Sarr and Lewis were definitely alternatives on the lists and if their clubs had been more open to negotiate than Jota/Tsimikas then we might have even signed them, but they were the public targets, leaked publicly specifically to aid the negotiations on the primary targets and in both cases it worked and we got the main choices. We probably had other possibilities being talked about and sounded out if the negotiations weren’t successful with main or public choices too.
What is wrong with jota? He seems like a decent player only 23 and has contributed in a competitive wolves side since coming to the prem. Vitor matos and pep ljinders vouch for him. Jurgen seems. Keen. Scores goals, contributes to the press. I struggle to see why sarr would be a better option than this guy…
Understand what you are saying and honestly, I will not be surprised because its just a matter of statistics and percentages, there is no way that we are going to be 100% successful in all our transfers. I think its important that we trust that the club has done its due diligence everytime they invest in a player but like what you say, with all the success we had in the Klopp era, there is always a chance that we would have a letdown from time to time. And I agree Jota could be one considering he is at the stage where Mane was when he was at Soton, Mane did become world class, Jota could go either way, lets hope he goes the way of Mane instead of the opposite.
I think we were interested. But we were never interested in only one player, we were never desperate to have him and only him. Our due diligence meant we would not allow ourselves to be placed in that position. So I would think, we are interested, but if the deal and timing is not right, we would not be forced into it. And I think Werner was just looking for a big club to go to and get a big pay increment, so he did not want to hang around and wait whether we would make a bid for it.
No such thing as 100 transfer ever. But u can never have a shortage or talented players on the squad contributing to the overall. If the staff, and administration think they can work with him, I think he has a chance.
If my sims are correct (and they’re often not) Wolves have actually paid us to take Jota this season, no? If we get the full 10 mil for Hoever that is and only send 4mill back this season. Tidy short term deal.
I wasn’t sure about the fee last night but the more I think about the more I think it’s just a case of perception.
If we’d signed him for a not dissimilar fee as a 20/21 year old after his season at Porto we’d have probably been very excited by his potential.
But, because we’ve already seen him for a couple of years there’s less excitement despite the fact he’s proven to be very good at this level. There’s still room for him to develop but that known quantity element perhaps dampens the expectations a little.
Mo. Salah failed at Chelsea, now. He joined us and the rest is history. Everything is situational isn’t it? Right place right time and then when they hit their peak we will see. He is still young enough
Seems most people rate him but think the fee is too high. I would have liked a player with a bit more pace but I think he’ll be a great understudy for the front three.
I’m surprised by some of the comments saying they are not overly convinced with Jota. For me Jiminez and Jota were one of the best strike partnerships in the league. Very happy he is coming to us, more surprised no big clubs have gone after Raul.
