Dominik SZOBOSZLAI: 2023/24

Mason Mount might have been a decent signing (never a player at the level of Szoboszlai) to add to the group, if the fee was low and the wage sensible. But since neither of those factors materialized we were well out of it.

As a homegrown option a few, including me, were saying Elliott gave us most of what Mount would anyway, and in a bit more time, Elliott could easily go on to prove the better player. As things stand I’m backing Harvey Elliott to show that.

Current Harvey Elliott v Mason amount is a debate to be had. Maybe.

Szoboszlai v Mount? Not even in the same bracket of quality.

I couldn’t be more delighted with our man. He is going to go from strength to strength in a Liverpool shirt and will probably start adding a few more goals, too.

Mount was probably attractive to us in large part because we assumed that his contract situation would mean he’d be relatively cheap, a valuable characteristic in a summer when we felt we needed to add several new players. Most reports seem fairly in agreement that we had 0 interest at the prices Chelsea ended up talking about, which is likely suggestive that he was only ever an option to explore rather than a cast iron target.

I have no extra insights into the running of the club then some of those fakesters on X…

But, if the club were serious about improving this summer they would have looked at a heck of a lot of transfer permutations and scenarios and I’m sure Mount would have been on some of them as a depth signing if his transfer fee were low enough (I’m not saying he was priority or high up the list but he would likely have been somewhere).

As is often the case though, hard to tell whether journalists stretched the definition of “interest” to sell an article (as is often the case) or made it up entirely based on a similar conjecture as myself (as may be even more commonly the case).

In the end… I’m thrilled we got Dom.

Really pleased with this signing, knew nothing about him until we got him,but reckon he was a steal.
So far at least Bellingham,Mount…meh!

We got Dom , Mac , Gravenberch for about the amount that it would have cost to get Bellingham (transfer plus wages included).

Football is a fickle game. Gravenberch was rated along with Bellingham as being in the same league not so long back. We just don’t know how footballers progress the further they go into their career.

Also, having watched Bellingham all last season and this season, maybe he’s capable of Dom’s workrate but I’m not convinced. Plus we really needed three kids and with Jude he’d be the only one we’d be getting at those prices.

I think we did the sensible business buying Dom, guy keeps saying how it’s his dream here and it allowed us to basically rebuild the CM.

It’s effectively Dom, Macallister and a bit for Gravenbech or Endo Vs Bellingham, we now have a fair bit of option in that CM even with injuries. We may have purchased one other when we sold Hendo and Fabinho but it’s been a complete revamp that generally looks decent.

I’m very happy with the midfield choices we have. One thing that isn’t being said is the signing of Bellingham wasn’t entirely within our purview. We were close, but towards the end his mind was made up to go to Real Madrid. He is a smashing player, no doubt about it.

But I couldn’t be more delighted that we have Szoboszlai, MacAllister, Gravenberch and Endo, to go with the other midfielders who remained.

It’s an excellent group, and it will go from strength to strength.

I already love this guy and he’s just getting started. I honestly believe he has the tools to become an all-time midfield legend. He’s such a natural! He does remind me of a former player at the same stage of his Liverpool career quite a lot, but I’m not naming him in case I jinx the lad!

Still early days, but it has been a good start for Dom, and for the whole team. If the midfield can strike the right balance between attack and defence (we are still a bit too open and sloppy at times), then we’ll be a force to be reckoned with this season.

He’s just so smooth in everything he does…effortless elegance!

I’ve noticed he hasn’t waxed them since he has arrived seemed to do it at RBL.

Are they???

Not as often as I thought it seems. Anyhow yeah.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s fucking mint myself but I don’t get those vibes. Not the first comment with that comparison either. When he starts running and bouncing off people who look like they’re standing still by comparison or blams one in from 30 yards then it’ll start becoming more apt, I reckon.

One of my colleagues has just summed up Dom nicely:

Remember when you were at school, and playing football in the playground? There was always one kid who was bigger, faster, stronger, better-looking and much better at football than everyone else.

That’s Dom.
