‘Chill’ - Mattyhurst explains blossoming friendship with new Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai

Story by Patrick Allen •

WHAT HAPPENED? Szoboszlai has proven to be an instant hit at Anfield, scoring a couple of great goals in his early days as a Liverpool player - most recently that thunderbolt against Leicester in the Carabao Cup. Both the Anfield faithful and team-mates alike recognise the talent the 22-year-old possesses, with TAN regular Mattyhurst quickly striking up a friendship with the Hungarian midfielder. The ex-Sunday League goalkeeper has clearly helped Szoboszlai settle in as it seems like he’s been playing at Liverpool for years already.

WHAT THEY SAID: Speaking to [Sky Sports] TAN regular Mattyhurst said: “[He’s] similar to me, to be fair. I’d say off the pitch, away from football, very relaxed, laidback, downtime, chill. We take our minds away from football. Whereas when we’re in a football environment around the training ground, in training, in games, we fight for every single thing and we want to bring the best out of the players we’re with. I think that’s why we get on so well – because we share the same ideas and the same kind of mentality towards the game. We give everything and we expect results and we’re both really competitive.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Szoboszlai was one of four midfielders recruited during the summer window as Liverpool overhauled the middle of the park. [Ryan Gravenberch], Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo all came through the door but it’s Szoboszlai who has enjoyed the fastest start, grabbing himself a couple of goals thus far this season.

WHAT NEXT FOR MATTYHURST? After making his return from injury, Matty looks set to make first domestic start since September 3 against the Dog & Duck on Sunday, where he hopes to keep a clean sheet once again.

Only Kidding @mattyhurst , Only Kidding :0)

One problem.

I mostly played Saturday afternoons, in fact I’ve only played twice on Sunday and one of them was at RB.

Also I’ve only kept one clean sheet :joy::see_no_evil:

He is starting tonight and will probably play at least 75 min after the full 90 a fun days ago. :santa:t2:

Played the full 90+ :persevere:

If he came off I’d expect it was an injury so.

They have actually qualified now but a early 20s guy as Captain he will always play full games.

We have a couple of young German lads over here in little old Upper Hutt in NZ who turn up for our Thursday night kick around and we were chatting about Szob, they both said he was outstanding last year for Leipzig.

They said he was impressive for them offensively and we discussed Bellingham as a comparison, they said Bellingham was a better all round player, I then let them know how for us his alround game as been top notch, which they were a little surprised with.

Get him in the wall! Or even in goal.

Thankfully that style hasn’t returned to football shirts.

Was such appalling fashion, like mullets that are also back.

Still cringe thinking about how I dressed when I was a kid. …those clothes still fit.

You probably need to be a certain age to remember them, but does anyone remember G Force (G Star?) jeans? God, I looked like such a twat.

Think I know what you’re talking about but google not helping me out.

To get the thread back on track; Dom is boss, despite his fashion sense.

EDIT: Found what I had in mind (JNCO jeans). Not what you mentioned but dear god!

My mate had a pair like that, I had a few that were going that way. I went straight to skinny jeans when they came in.

Yeah I was one of those tragic angular hair cut types from the mid 00s
