Dominik Szoboszlai (AM) RB Leipzig

Pretty sure the Saudi leagues have emailed every player with a massive offer.

If only we had a thread to discuss the owners then we wouldn’t have to have every other thread on the forum infested with comments about them.

Isn’t it more like:

Release clause is 70M.
LFC: We offer you 20M + 20M if we win champions league 3 times in a season
RBL: Nein
LFC: Okay, 23M + 25M in 64 years if we win 70 cups
RBL: Grrr, NEIN
LFC: ok ok, 40M + 10M in achievable bonuses
RBL: Close, we want 50M + 10M in bonuses
LFC: Well… fuck it, okay… you greedy twats: 47M+10M in bonuses and we wont be buying monster drinks anymore
RBL: Ok, 49M+9M and it’s a deal.
LFC: No… out of the question. We’re pulling out.

Amateurs.we need the babel-copter

For us, its probably a structural issue, with us wanting to pay over a longer period than the clause initially calls for. We’ve seen under FSG a preference for signing players through triggering the release clause unless there is good reason not to do so.

@Limiescouse recently made the point that there are a number of players available this summer - and we’ve seen figures around £40-45m for each of them being bandied around in the links to us - so it may be a fair price for him but negotiable in the current market.

We need to hold onto as much spondoolies as possible from this deal, so we can splash it on Thuram

Fixed it for you

Ornstein:

Liverpool are ready to push ahead with a deal for RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

Newcastle United had previously expressed interest in the 22-year-old but have now left the way clear for Liverpool.

After the deal initially looked difficult to do following a meeting earlier this week, the dynamic has shifted in the past 24 hours and Liverpool appear to have been given confidence that it is possible.

Liverpool and Leipzig are already in dialogue with Fabio Carvalho’s season-long loan move to the Bundesliga club expected to be completed today (Friday) and it was inevitable that the Szoboszlai deal has come up.

Szoboszlai has a €70million release clause in his contract — with conflicting reports about its expiry — but regardless the move will involve a significant financial outlay.

He is the latest attacking midfield option being considered by the club and fits the profile they are looking for in the window, following the earlier pursuit of England international Mason Mount who is now close to joining Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Szoboszlai is high in Liverpool’s thinking amid interest in Khephren Thuram and Romeo Lavia. The move is unrelated to Fabio Carvalho’s proposed loan move to the Bundesliga club.

Szoboszlai has been an important player for Leipzig since his move from Red Bull Salzburg in 2021. He made 48 appearances during the 2022-23 season, scoring 10 goals.

A regular for Hungary, he also has 32 caps for his country.

Liverpool have already completed the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer.

Far too early in the thread to be this pessimistic. Give it a couple days and, if we haven’t signed him by then, someone surely will have derailed the thread into much more interesting territory than “will FSG stump up the money?”. These transfer threads only really get interesting when people are given enough time to be thoroughly distracted.

Interestingly enough Titian’s Diana and Actaeon was purchased for 50 million pounds back in 2008. Quite a small painting, and not the most mobile, so don’t think it’d do a decent job in midfield.

If you’re looking for a midfield alternative for 60 mil I’d go with Komodo Dragons. They had a retail price of 1400 on a facebook black market before the police closed it down in 2019. For 60 million you could get 46,476 Komodos. Just think at how well a Komodo army could overrun a midfield. Not the best in the air, mind, so we’d need a lanky bastard to partner the Komodos.
