say about 50% of aussies about wherever they live…

That said TAS is nice, especially if you are missing home
I’d highly recommend the overland track if you have the time and can plan ahead.

Being from a town 40 mins from Cradle, the Overland track is my old stomping ground. Was massively into hiking before moving overseas.

Best places on the track are usually up in the Labyrinth, in the middle with Ossa and the Pelions (via Arm River Track at Lake Rowallan - nice springboard into possibly the most interesting part of the track), and neighbouring Walls of Jerusalem.

I’ve done those places many times, usually in winter and solo, taking my snow shoes, and being the only person around for miles is incredibly peaceful. A very different proposition to summer when walking there is more akin to Snowdonia. But living so close I would organise around the weather events: ā€˜Snow predicted down to 400m? Fuck yes! I’m in!’

Very limited with time though this trip so probably will only get in a day walk and will probably go the Arm River again but better than nothing.

This. Missed the opportunity to do this when a uni club organised a trip. Would love to do it when my boys are older (wife absolutely wouldn’t entertain a winter trip).

Walls after a heavy snowfall is particularly stunning and IMO well worth it, but there’s a part (between Herod’s gate and Damascus gate) where absolutely you would need snow shoes to get through. I’ve been up there when there was 2 foot of overnight snow and it would have been a very slow slog through that section of track without the shoes. But all the beautiful little pools and the stand of old pencil pines with the dolerite wall of mountains on both sides is :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I actually took my wife up to Walls after a good snowfall when we first met. I guess technically it was our first date. It worked.

I do kind of miss being 20 and doing stupid shit like going bushwalking in snowstorms.

that’s an understatement.

wow. i just cant let this go past uncommented on.(not at your missus having to endure the ordeal)

but just wow…the human body is complex…something to do with the magnetic poles maybe?..what a fascinating phenonomem…not so much the ordeal of it, which i assume could be dangerous…but just…the way we are all linked…

believe me I was shocked/surprised. we were honeymooning in our 20’s and after 8 days of her cycle (and getting worse) we went to hospital. at one point, we contemplated cutting the trip short and heading home but there happened to be a specialist at the hospital that day who took some time with us and did some tests. we stayed overnight at the hospital, some scans done of her midsection and everything was normal. blood tests normal. everything normal. was told to eat a high-iron/protein diets to keep her nutrients up as her body recovered from the hemorrhaging (we went Atkins for a while, which isn’t cheap when backpacking). a few weeks of some relax time in Sydney over Christmas and everything sorted itself out. We travelled another 7months, no issues.

that looks like Great Ocean Rd. Closest I got to that was Bell’s Beach / Torquay. Was at Bells’ in storm season, saw 12’-15’ breaks that shook the ground when they broke. couple guys around the point in full neoprene suits surfing the backside but none on the inside of the point.

Always wanted to make that drive to SA and then on to West side of the country. nobody really talks about Perth but everyone I’ve seen go there, loved it.

If that is true it’s fucking embarrassing. 4 packets of chocolate based sweets and Vegemite? Even a fluffy toy kangaroo would be less embarrassing than that.

I was thinking of applying before I saw that.

Fluffy toy kangaroo would be a great incentive.

i understand what you mean, but i disagree…but there is a certificate of citizenship there aswell…

its a token gesture , one that nods to our fun loving ideal of never taking ourselves overly serious.

we can be too harsh on ourselves at times.

This is an actual thing…
