On his golf game?
There is no depth they wonât sink to.
UN offices need to be moved out of New York and into Switzerland
Every New Yorker I know would celebrate. It causes ducking mayhem when they have meetings
Who cares. Needs to be moved because US is fast becoming/has already become a third world dictatorship
Americans need to realise that the world is done with their shit and will untangle and remove them at every opportunity. US âsoft powerâ hollywood etc will all be in the bin within a generation.
i mean they despise most of the UN agencies, WHO, ICJâŚ
fine, have at it. stick with your toxic parasitic relationship with Israel
The 25th Amendment lays out succession between terms. The Speaker of the House becomes the Vice-President. That is how Gerald Ford become Vice-President in December 1973 (when Agnew resigned in disgrace), then President in August 1974 when Nixon resigned. So Mike Johnson would become VP.
Thank-fully not a free hit.
I knew that Speaker was 3rd in line if something happened to both President and V.P. but didnât know they automatically became VP if VP moved up to President.
So, would that mean Johnson would step down as Speaker and a new Speaker would need to be elected as surely the V.P canât be involved in the House can he?
The 25th doesnât require the new president keep the speaker as a permanent appointment. Itâs about clarifying line of succession when changes happen too quickly for a nomination process to happen, but the new president would have the authority to nominate their preferred person. Ford is a confusing case because he was the speaker, but was affirmatively chosen by Nixon after consultation with party leaders.
I think the writing is on the wall for at least the General Assembly to be moved, following the decision to deny Abbas entry to the United States.
I think they are, well many are, they just arenât shouting about it.
I wouldnt bet on it. Since when have they followed process, the Constitution etc?
Since @Arminius has not corrected the record:
The 25th Amendment doesnât say that the Speaker of the House becomes the Vice-President. I believe that may be a confusion arising from section 1, which is about who becomes President in case of the incapacitation or removal of the President, and is an automatic process.
Section 2 deals with the vacancy of the vice-presidency as follows:
Ford became Vice-President because he was nominated by Nixon. The same process was then followed when Ford nominated Rockefeller, who was never Speaker of the House but instead Governor of New York, for his own Vice-President.
Trump will be brown bread before long. Vance will be President. The shitshow will continue for a little while longer, though the Republicans will weaken in the midterms as the Democrats make solid gains. People are getting sick and tired of what Trump is doing, and that will be reflected in the midterms.
Gavin Newsom will get the job at the next Presidential election.
Caveat
Assuming we have another somewhat free and fair election.
Thatâs a huge caveat there ROTW. I know youâve been paying attention long enough to realise the chances of a future free and fair election in the US are virtually zero.
Spot on, and what has been happening is scary. I added the word âsomewhatâ as the next election is probably the last chance to save something resembling democracy, if it isnât too late already.
