Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

I see Boris Johnson deserves a kick in the head again.

The US is the apogee of irony!
Who gives a fuck anymore anyway?
10s of school kids killed in one attack and there’s hardly a whisper. Some fucked up agitator gets killed and it’s the end of the world. Should be the other way round!

Seems like you’ve given this a lot of thought. Really thought this through.
I would just like to say that I’ve always liked you and think you’re a great moderator.

From a European point of view, the whole country looks presently like a nightmare if I’m honest.

Unfortunately, these things don’t end there. Lots of bloody-thirsty red caps with itchy trigger fingers.

That is literally what I wrote above:

US media is debating about a sniper because he was shot from 200 yards.
Just a short comment on that. An average person with some training (doesn’t even have to be that long) armed with a rifle, can take down a man sitting in a chair from that range with no expert background and with a single shot . I say this, because I was very much able to hit a human torso from 200 meters when I was a conscript, after just weeks in recruit school. Unless you are a terrible shooter genetically (some are), with some training, you can too. And that is without a scope.

But I commented again with some nuance, arguing that the shooter is not untrained. His successful extraction shows that. Not the shot, but his extraction.

And almost entirely based on rewriting reality in terms of who he was a person, what his place in the fraught landscape was. He was an avowed Great Replacement Theory proponent, celebrated violence against his perceived enemies, and encouraged further acts of it.

Yet this is how people are acting like

Yesterday a pundit was on air on MSNBC when the news broke. He, a Bush era republican so hardly a lefty, referred to him a a divisive presence and an active participant in a movement with a hateful and violent rhetoric. He has been fired already for saying that.

Maybe. But the location is a nightmare for anything less than a security detail that secures the entire area. Lots of accessible rooftop space, windows, odd outdoor cul-de-sacs on terraces with minimal foot traffic, and mutiple easy exit routes, right next to a major highway. A little planning by a thoughtful loner who knows how to shoot is all that is needed.

Oh look the douchenozzle pipes in

Blowjob Johnson has outed himself as sexist, racist, transphobic, murder-lusting piece of fascist human waste, in case we were actually in any doubt before. Just Google some of the things Kirk said, on the record, to see how appalling this take is. Also, he was repeatedly taken to the cleaners in the debates and basically refused to admit defeat even though he had been bested.

If ever they needed a patsy… can’t imagine the furor if the assassin gets away with it.

Agreed. He was deplorable scum and good riddance to him and his ‘guns are great’ shite. That the fascists will turn it into an attempt to do fascist stuff doesn’t make his death in anyway something to mourn.

Hence why I celebrate his death.

Exactly.

I had never heard of him until last night. When I heard about the shooting, I was appalled by it. Then I read his bio and I was appalled by him. The two positions are not mutually exclusive.

I think what struck me about his political positions on Wikipedia is that he seemingly had no political philosophy of his own. His “convictions” appeared to be identifying what would make people angry and then to make up rhetoric to do just that.

That’s basically Republican philosophy at this point. They’ve turned being an internet troll into a political movement.
