I just saw the Yankees had a moment of silence before their game last night. I don’t think there is a better indication of the right having won the culture wars.
Ten years ago the things he routinely said would have made him a pariah. Someone relegated to AM radio. However, as MAGA has risen the “respectable establishments” have shown they have no absolute moral radar but simply treat anything with a popular constituency as worthy of consideration regardless of how repugnant they treated the same attitudes before they realized there was some popular sentiment behind them.
The Republican party is now driven by 20 somethings who grew up laughing at dead baby jokes on 4chan and as they didn’t know where the line was between a joke and reality they adopted these jokes as their actual personality. Both me and @Cologne-Liverpool have spoken about how there is a Schrödinger’s cat like aspect to it that these insults and slurs are both simultaneously authentic and a joke at the same time and they will only decide which one it is once they see the response.
Really? How about holding a minute of silence everytime a bunch of kids are killed at school during a shooting? That would be basically every week I suppose…
For inexplicable reasons, the United States have liftted sanctions on Belarus today. Zapad 2025 begins today (Russia and Belarus giant military excercise that Russia has tradtionally used to mask force deployment prior to invasions) and eastern Europe is on altert to look for suspicious troop movements (mostly Ukraine is, as Ru can use it to change attack vectors).
But Trump sends Lukashenko a golden letter. Belarus is also the country where many of the drones that entered Poland and Moldova were launched from. Makes no sense.
Vance was talking only about 2 days ago about how removing all sanctions from Russia and developing closer economic ties with them is the way to mold them towards our interests. Interesting theory. Has anyone ever tried that before?
It’s just yet another example that for their arguments to make any sense you must wipe loads of information that is common knowledge from your brain.
@Magnus as an aside though I mentioned in the TV thread about a Polish show that in English is called Eastern Gate, about Polish intelligence trying to protect the Suwalki gap from a joint Russia/Belarus plot. You’d love it and its absurdly timely
Thoughtful loner is exactly who I think is behind this. Trained enough to kill and get away. Brave enough to execute plan under stress and cool enough to get away without raising awareness. But not trained enough to worry about silouette. Not trained enough to actually hit the head (which he was likely aiming for) and etc. But there are indicators that he was waiting to see if the target was dead before running off, so there is that.
Anecdotal addendum and note to my post above regarding lifting Belarus sanctions at a very fucking bad time: I am not really worried that Russia will invade Ukraine from a completely different vector during Zapad 2025. That would be too hasty and incur too high losses, I suspect.
Main reason I am not worried is that for 2 months now, Russia has been doing this: https://x.com/WarUnitObserver/status/1961790275828818199
And they are pretty much finished with their regrouping. Ukraine has also been regrouping from Sumy the last 3 weeks, reacting to the Russian regrouping from Kherson, Zaporithzya and Sumy towards Kostantynivka. These are strategic regroupings and involves hundreds of thousands of Russian troops:
This is obviously OOT, but my point is that Zapod 2025 is likely to involve provocations against NATO, but it’s forces are unlikely to drive into Ukraine at current.
Yep the reality behind their views on what they actually mean when advocating of freedom of speech and acceptable lines for humour are the same as for what they define as civility…
“He only demeaned and made disgusting comments about people I also think are subhuman and those people dont deserve our civility. If you simply dont consider those comments then he was always civil”
Edit: I should point out though that there is a very deceptive video doing the rounds to illustrate his racism that isn’t what is being portrayed. In the video he is giving a response to someone off camera when he suddenly springs to feet yelling what appears to be a racist slur at the person. He says it multiple times with audible gasps heard in response. However, he was talking to the founder of TYT, Cenk Uygur and it just sounded a lot like the other C word. He has enough shitty things about him to not get caught up in these rage bait type edits
Unless they take some profit from working for Russia’s interests? Personal profit, that is? The more it goes on, and the more I think that this government is a group of Russian moles.
I don’t think so personally.
There is more than enough money in the US conservative sphere, far more than what Russia could inject undetected. I find that the nationalist sentiment in the US in MAGA circles are pro Russian, because Russia is seen as a traditional Christian country (don’t ask me where they get this stupid idea from, but it’s all over the US sphere and have been since before 2022 and only got far worse during the war) upholding traditional values against Woke and Homosexualism.
I think the leaders of MAGA, are either of the same opinion, or is arguing for Russia due to it’s large popularity in the US grassroot. Some absolutely the latter category, some of the former.
So I view it more as a sociopolitical trend of the US grassroot embracing nihilism and fascism, more than the personal financial relationship of individuals.
However, in between the masses, I strongly, strongly believe that Russia has influencers directly working for their services high up in the MAGA hierarchy. And then I am not talking about those who openly work for Russia Today. But I also think they are very few and not at the very top. But I don’t know.
As I have argued before, far worse than Russian moles, is ideological allignment. Because unlike moles and people who get payed, ideological allignment will linger, probably grow too during these times. So the Russian money, all of that, is of less interest to me than ideological allignment as a destabilising factor in the US and the West.
First excerpts of Harris’ book are now out and she’s gone in two footed on the Biden inner circle. Her story is one of the Biden team feeling they had an incentive to help portray her as an ineffective, bumbling VP to bolster their argument that without a ready made replacement he had to stand for a second term. This is what Axios is reporting of their private response… https://x.com/axios/status/1966108265777082814
Comically, had they been saying this about her since this time last year she almost certainly would be president now
“I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.” — Charlie Kirk. April 5, 2023.
When she says she doesn’t agree with everything he says, she means only the unimportant bits. Who the second class citizens should be is in full alignment.
