We should not be surprised, but it’s incredible how few people involved in the discourse know what it is Kimmel actually said and just accept as an article of faith that is was worthy of condemnation. Even liberals are quick to just accept that before pivoting to a first amendment defense. Fuck that, we should not even accept their framing because that is actually part of the fight, arguably the more important part. See this…
We fired people. We paid them out through the length of severance package they took, the work did not get done because we fired the people who were supposed to do it, we then rehired those people
Highlighted by me:
Sinclair also call upon Mr. Kimmel to issue a direct apology to the Kirk family. Furthermore, Sinclair asks Mr. Kimmel to make a meaningful personal donation to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA.
They are demanding that he funds MAGA to get back on air. Free Speech indeed.
Because it is far from as simplistic as you wrote above and I thought you knew that. Surprised you ask him this question tbh.
Personally, I don’t really support “Antifa” as a movement (Why should I?). Most people I know, don’t either.
I identify as an anti fascist, but I don’t identify with this movement:
I mean, I am glad they exist and it’s probably an important movement in the specific lense of the US. But it’s not for me. I am not interested in anarchism anymore. That was when I was 16.
He is a well known internet film critic who increasingly became focused on the wokeness of hollywood and how women were ruining it and at least one former forumite here quoted him the way high school kids start quoting Plato after one semester of intro to Philosophy
He is a great illustration of our time. He started out with a reputation for cutting, cynical commentary, and devolved into misogynistic screeds with barely concealed racial animus with a significant portion of his audience going along for the ride with him.
I am not a practicing Christian however I am mindful of the Bible warning against false prophets etc. Amazing how all these ‘christians’ are blindly being led by the nose and falling into hate and bigotry wilfully and gleefully. I find myself almost hoping for the Rapture just to see the look on their idiotic faces.
This is what makes the right’s insistence that Kimmel lied (he didnt, you just either have a comprehension issue or you’re just taking it on faith from bad faith actors) AND he needs to be punished for it - this is their guy. The guy who lies in every sentence.
Also recall during the campaign when it was pointed out to Vance that the Hatians in Ohio he was demonizing were not illegal his response to was say he doesnt care and that if it takes him making up a story to draw people’s attention to a problem (the plight of people who have to live around immigrants) then he would do it. And this is the guy who a day or two before Kimmel’s comments said in an interview on Fox that the killer was likely part of an organized LW group and investigations into people like Soros was underway to find out who. This is a bold faced lie.
Again this is a case that we can lie because when we do it then it is for ends we agree with. But you cannot even be allowed to tell the truth if its saying something we dont like.
This is from Dem strategists from the 2012 campaign. The point being made is that they struggled to find the right angle to hit Romney with on his economic policy because an accurate description of what he intended to do normal people refused to accept it was real because it was too ghoulish a thing to try to do.
This was back when politics was still normal, but illustrates the issue they’ve had facing Trump. Very little of this is a surprise to people who were paying attention. And the issue was not so much that the average person made a value judgement that they agreed with it. It was that we raised that what is happening is exactly what was going to happen it was so cartoonishly bad too few people believed it.
