Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

It really is time I started listening to rumours and making drastic life altering decisions based on them!
I heard a rumour that eating causes you to fart so I will stop eating.
Aren’t women lucky, I heard a rumour, that they don’t fart so they can eat as much as they like.

Good morning Mr. Fastolfe, I hope you are well.
With my best greetings,
Hari Seldon

(Did you read the Foundation books, also those about the robots? They are far, far better than the TV series imo.)

But the situation is still a bit different, no? During Lincoln’s time, the schism in the country was mainly geographical. The North went at war against the South. This time around, the lines aren’t as clearly defined I’m afraid…

That tylenol press conference yesterday was utter idiocy. It really was a return to the peak covid era press conferences

I think that is one of the fundamental differences that will preclude it from looking the same. Although the South was far more divided than it looked once the conflict started, the politics of the 1840s and 1850s had produced an ungovernable whole composed of two governable halves. That is not the case now, the fundamental ungovernability may be more chronic. In 1861, the North was able to continue right along using the democratic institutions - Southern members of Congress simply left, various departments lost leaders who went to the southern equivalents, but core functions simply continued on.

Right now, institutions are holding up despite the fact that they are repeatedly taking sledgehammer blows. Once they actually start to genuinely fail, there isn’t going to be much of a foundation to put them back together. Worth noting too that the apparatus of the state in 2025 does incomprehensibly more than in 1861, there is just more to break now, viz. the Tylenol press conference. At a stroke, that was derailing the functions of DHS, component agences such as CDC, FDA, but there are even concerns around the FTC (why was a brand name used?)

Ameoba vs Mammals

The perfect encapsulation of the MAGA attitude to expertise, or even the concept of knowing things.

Too unfamiliar with the requirements of the job to understand just how unqualified she is.

Part of me wants them to go full isolationist to quarantine their madness from the rest of us. Shame it’ll create an enormous vacuum, but what is the alternative at this point?

Some do, but far from enough.

That would be wonderful. And in the meantime, if our media started to stop lapping up every word that orange fool says, and reverberating it everywhere, it would already be a good start.

Nothing new, but just some of the shit that has been coming out of the idiot king the last few days…That’s really where all the historical comparisons fail. Plenty of bad, insane dictators and horrible people, but no one with any kind of real power has ever been this publicly this stupid, just plain dumb. This isn’t some inbred king in the middle ages that hardly any citizen ever got to hear speak. They can hear this shit all day every day for years. And yet millions of people actually voted for this brain dead idiot. Twice. And still support him. Still impossible to comprehend.

Trump contends with broken teleprompter - after escalator breaks on way up to speechpublished at 16:30

16:30

Right as he started his speech before the UN General Assembly Donald Trump admitted he was going to be forced to read from his notes, after a teleprompter broke down.

And before he’d even taken to the podium, Trump had to contend with a broken escalator, which stopped just as soon as he and his wife Melania Trump had set foot on it.

Trump referenced the mishap during his speech, saying: “All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that on the way up stopped right in the middle.”

“If the first lady wasn’t in great shape she would have fallen,” he said. “These are the two things I got from the United Nations; a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter.”

In a video posted to social media which shows Trump on the broken escalator, the US president is then greeted by UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed, who promises to have it fixed.

The teleprompter, too, began working again during the US president’s speech.

It begs the question, how much of a fat, repulsive cunt must one be to break an escolator?
