Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

I’ve mentioned it before, but Ezra Kleifn did a fantastic series of interviews last summer ostensibly as a good faith effort to try to understand the modern right, to let them explain how their seeming contradictions were in fact coherent. In the end what it did was lay bare that incoherence. In one of them he basically pinned down Vivek into being in favour of most of Biden’s policy that he was rhetorically opposing.

What that opens up is the possibility of someone being able to put together a movement that has elements of a genuinely populist economic policy with government support for reindustrialization in key sectors, but coupled with MAGA’s anger and racism. That keeps most of MAGA together and would pull a significant amount from the left into a strong and scary coalition.

Josef had a nicer uniform with a far better cut.
He was also rethorically, to be fair, on another level. But now I am nitpicking. Because I agree with you.

Is that even remotely possible? All I see is hate driven stuff with little logic at all. It feels like your asking the successor to actually be a grown up and figure out what works for the US rather than their own wallet. I bow yo your greater knowledge on this though.

Theoretically it should be. It addresses one of the core economic issues their movement says it is built around. It uses arguments they have already made about what good policy looks like they just made those arguments while pretending that isnt in fact what Biden’s policy already did. And it can still be framed as an us vs them issue in terms of who will get the benefits of the policy and who we will ensure do not get to benefit from it. And it would have a core group of libs falling over themselves to support it arguing the need to moderate and we need to overlook the racism for the greater good while ganging up with centrist Republicans to talk shit on CNN about AoC.

It is what Vance’s version of MAGA should be. Whether that’s what he’ll do is a different question though as he is just such an untrustworthy shape shifter that the only thing you can be sure of with him is he is going to be detestable as shit when doing whatever it is he is doing.

More to the point, these chucklefucks have spent 12 months declaring Milei to be a roaring success and that is why we need to follow his path.

I don’t know if everyone have seen this story ? Well, it’s factual despite being absurd.

This from the people who claimed that Zelenski dishonoured the white house by showing up not wearing a suite. Or Obama in his tan suit

This is why we should never play the game with a MAGA when they present a single clip/quote of their person saying something that refutes the accusation you are making about them. This was a night uplifting moments but also full of vengeance. You dont get to show us the clips of people speaking of forgiveness and pretend that negates our criticisms of it.

You don’t get to be the keynote speaker at the racism is awesome conference being broadcast by the we like racism network on the night when you are awarded the David Duke lifetime achievement award and say one thing uncritical of black people and have that be your defense against criticisms you are racist.

Most likely they payed her for the story in the first place. She moved there in 2023, citing “security concerns” in the US. Which is strange, since she would have been embraced by MAGA if she wanted to.

Remember the BS about Biden cognitive decline which started because of his (lifelong) stutter. This guy doesn’t even know which (in)continent he’s talking about and his deplorable supporters are too dumb to care

I well remember but do not at all think it was bullshit. His cognitive decline was and is, very clear. That the other guy is a demented idiot who also suffer from cognitive decline along side his many other symptoms; I don’t think it changes that.

My opinion anyway.

But it was a question of degree. Also hence why Biden didn’t stand again.

Oh, yes. I would never ever disagree with that !!!
It’s just that you wrote it was bullshit and I would not agree with that.

They say something about a broken clock being correct twice a day

Using the stuttering/speech deficit as evidence of significant cognitive decline was BS
