Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

The way the world is at the moment, I wish they would purposefully not make an award to anyone, just to make a point of how low international relations have sunk.

" Donald Trump’s mentor, the lawyer Roy Cohn, was a close associate of McCarthy and, as a prosecutor, was the one who secured Ethel Rosenberg’s death sentence. That lineage is clear. "

Democrats have a terrorist wing therefore we must make political opposition illegal.

Columbian Fishing boats are Venezuelan narcoterrorists therefore we can drone them to death.

The government of Qatar was called by trump a funder of anti American terrorism so we’re building them an air force base on US soil

Nobel Peace Prize
Excellent. I’m sure the winner is worthy. I can’t help but laugh that it’s a Venezuelan woman, given Trump’s disregard for women and Venezuela.

Very glad that Trump didn’t get his orange paws on it. Informed observers knew he wouldn’t, but the world is such a bonkers place since the advent of Trump, and MAGA, that there was a slight doubt because rules and norms don’t apply to him. Well done to the committee for being independent, and by extension, the Norwegian government for allowing them to do their job. It’s remarkable that we live in an age where allowing people to do their work, in a business-as-usual fashion, should be potentially risky.

After arming Israel to the teeth, and funding them tens of billions a year, and watching them raze the Gaza Strip to the ground, killing, so far, many tens of thousands of people; and now watching Trump manufacture domestic crises, to turn American troops on their own people because they are in cities Trump doesn’t like… had Trump won the Nobel Peace Prize, it would have lost all credibility.

I think Trump is wrestling with his own mortality. He has mused on a couple of occasions about whether or not he will make it to heaven. I would imagine his play for the Nobel Peace Prize was a weird attempt, in his own mind, to make up for his many sins.

As for the Qatari base, it is strange to the nth degree…

Until you factor in the shiny 747, the billions invested into Trump crypto, and the promise of more $$ to come.

Money. Sex. Power.

Trump is a simple creature. These three things drive him.

On the sex part, witness his life as a playboy, the multiple marriages and affairs, paying off porn stars, grabbing em by the pussy, and likely worst of all, the teen beauty pageants and years long relationship with Epstein. I hope that all comes out and sinks him.

’ Soon after the Nobel Peace Prize committee announced it was awarding this year’s honor to MarĆa Corina Machado, the leader of the main opposition movement in Venezuela, the Trump White House issued an unequivocal condemnation.

ā€œThe Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace,ā€ Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, wrote on social media on Friday. President Trump had been openly campaigning for the prize.

But things are complicated in matters of peace and war.

Marco Rubio, Mr. Trump’s secretary of state and national security adviser, is a longtime supporter of Ms. Machado. In fact, he signed a letter last August to the Norwegian Nobel Committee supporting her nomination for the prize.

ā€œIt is our firm belief that MarĆa Corina Machado’s courageous and selfless leadership, and unyielding dedication to the pursuit of peace and democratic ideals, make her a most deserving candidate for this prestigious award,ā€ Mr. Rubio and the other lawmakers wrote.

ā€œWe hope that the Nobel Committee will recognize MarĆa Corina Machado’s remarkable contributions and grant her the distinction she so rightly deserves,ā€ they said.

Mr. Rubio and Ms. Machado posted praise of each other on the social media platform X months ago. But as of noon on Friday, hours after the Nobel committee’s announcement, Mr. Rubio had not written a single word about Ms. Machado’s win on either his personal or official accounts on X.

Only just noticed that Letitia James is being accused of Mortgage Fraud. Isnt that the same charge they tried in two other cases (one being one of the board members of the FED?). What is it about Mortgage fraud that leads them to use that to pursue people - is it a flex on that being what Trump himself was accused of?

Just thinking out loud, but why all the dough to Argentina?

Another reason might be planning ahead, for when he has to run from the Epstein consequences. Trump will need a safe haven.

Partially yes. It’s why he constantly talks about impeaching everyone trying to minimize that part of his cv.

To do this He installed a partisan as head of the HUD and they are pretending that in his role at HUDhe just keeps coming across paper work proving trump’s enemies are committing the same crime he was charged with

There is history of hedge fund guys having money tied up in Arg and needing extraordinary measures to get it back. At least one of Beasant’s circle will be looking to be made whole by this move. And trump is fine because he cares little for details and can easily be sold on the idea that a successful Milei is good for maga

Edit and of course planet money has done a good episode on this

It’s not so hard to manipulate him. Sadly, not everyone is a position to do so.

Jeez, the Republicans are slow,as @Magnus pointed out yesterday the window for this years award closed 31/1,he’d been El Presidento for 11 days, so he would have had to have a wet dream or several to have sorted out all the wars he didn’t know about.
