She’s so nearly right, but also so horribly wrong. Don’t expect her to be replaced by anything other than a Trump lapdog.

I don’t, mate.

I just posted the news . I have no positive expectations either, I am afraid

It’s grey and raining where I am and a couple of questions started to swirl around in my mind.

  1. Are there any old school Republicans left? The older generation is dying out but there must be a substantial chunk, 50 and older, that lived in a pre Tea party era and could see this new anathema and shudder. Having said that, many of the denizens in office have not really changed throughout so maybe the whole base has shifted and there are none of the old school left.
  2. How did the US go from a diamond thief to Satan’s new love interest?
  1. I know one and he’s completely disgusted by the whole thing, even voted for Biden, but has now given up on politics entirely.

  2. I have no idea what you’re on about.

It is a South Park reference. Obama was depicted as a diamond thief (primarily because they couldn’t find a way to depict him in a way that was South Park funny…) and the Don is the current love interest of Satan…

There was a piece in one of the RW mags last week, maybe national review, about Jeb rallying an effort of the old guard to start fighting to take back the party from MAGA starting in the 2026 cycle. And there are a lot of them now in the wilderness with the succession of the people over the past 10 years who tested the waters of opposing Trump, got no supports, and so stepped away from what they quickly determined was a losing fight. It sounds ridiculous, but politics does these big snap backs often. As much as Trump was a rejection of the establishment, maybe the overt failures and broken promises of the MAGA movement will make a return to this sort of solution look more appealing. I think the other thing that cannot be overlooked is that the failure to meaningfully oppose Trump has always been a lack of collective action. People who opposed him were always left by fucking cowards on an island and quickly chewed up and discarded the way Marge has now been. There is now a BIG collection of those people sitting on the sidelines. Maybe with a focused effort it might actually gain traction.

The big problem with this though is the 2012 Republican party, the thing some people harken for a return to, is what gave birth to Trumpism. Trump was not distinct from it he was the natural extension of it just turned up to 11. Romney dabbled in birtherism because he and his team felt it was the only way to get passion in their base. The chamber of commerce arguments people pretend this version of the Republican party was based on was never what really animated its voters and it was also barely even how they governed. W gave us big government expansion in the area of “national security”, did so at considerable cost to the personal liberties they claim to find precious and exploded the debt in the process.

Thanks for the considered answer.

I would guess in some ways we are in a strange moment. 2026 would be a pretty good time to start as Trump will be at approaching half way and the machinery to get to 48 will be gearing up. Will they be looking to peace meal or go all out. Will be interesting to see how they go about it. Is MTG stepping aside as she did an early attempt to distance and jockey for position?

I suppose this is, in reality, completely unimportant. However, I do find it slightly remarkable that the US president posts AI doctored memes of himself as the God-Emperor of Man from Warhammer 40K
https://x.com/NewsWire_US/status/1992696661978788289

It’s actually a complete AI botch job, using I think, partly the Primarch Roboute Guilliman, mixing it with the Emperor and then placing stars of chaos on it. (but that’s details that most don’t care about)

Evidence so you don’t have to click on it (first time ever I have clicked on truth social, and I don’t intend to make a habit of it).
Seems he retweeted it only. So just normal stuff and not really very special, I guess
