The FIFA peace prize bombs Venezuela while the Nobel prize celebrates it

Also remember,

And not only is there no evidence of maduro’s connection to drug trafficking, but the drug this admin repeatedly references as their concern (fentanyl) does not come from Venezuela

We need to boycott the 2026 World Cup.

Edit:
I posted this in the breaking news thread but then copied it here to keep the discussion on America in one place.

Maduro is a scumbag, but America doing this is against international law.

The oil and rare earth minerals are obviously the reason. The drug stuff is wide of the mark, or at best, 10% of the reason for America doing something.

One thing that isn’t being said much is the influence of China in the region. I think that is a huge reason why America is flexing its muscles. A Hong Kong company controlled the Panama Canal, and last year those rights were sold to Blackrock, an American company, after Donald Trump said he wants the Panama Canal.

Shortly after that small boats started to get bombed, to try to make the drug trafficking aspect the main story, but that is only a footnote to the wider story. Along the way a larger American military build up has been happening, and now this, with Maduro kidnapped.

China sells arms to Venezuela, and I think America would like to gauge the capability of Venezuela’s ambphibious equipment, to gain first hand experience of what might be used against Taiwan down the line, should China make good on its promise to invade Taiwan and bring them to heel. And obviously control of oil and rare earth minerals is a huge reason for the move.

Europe should be discussing what to do if and more likely when America moves into Greenland. There is the Thule military base in northwest Greenland and I would imagine America will be ramping that up, increasing its footprint and influence as we go, rather than an all out invasion.

Europe needs to think through a clear response. My guess is it will be some sort of negotiated shared agreement to carve up the $, but American influence will grow and it will get what it wants.

Europe needs to establish a world class independent deterrence asap, as Russia to the east is a huge problem, and now America to the west does not look like a friend.

It would be good if multiple high profile countries were willing to do this.

Say, all of Europe for the Sabre-rattling over Denmark.
Then all of South America for the illegal moves on Venezuela.

The list could grow and grow, but it wouldn’t be much of a World Cup without European or South American countries present.

In Beijing this has to be seen as either the passing of global moral leadership or a green light to take Taiwan

It was weirdly swept under the rug and quickly forgotten about even by places that covered it, but in the midst of the US officially recognizing Guaido as their leader during trump’s first term there was a failed US led attempt to oust Mauduro. It was the bay of pigs playbook, but dumber. Trump has been talking fairly openly for years about Venezuela being the country we really should be at war with…because of the oil and even now they found the made up drug pretext he cannot stop mentioning this being about the oil

If they didn’t boycott the Russian World Cup, they definitely won’t be doing it now. We live in a world where everyone’s ethics are for sale.

They’re quite open about it. Taking notes from Putin

‘We are going to run the country until …’ . Trump now.

Edit: Memphis too.

“it’s darkly humorous to listen to Trump and his cronies reference the fact that Maduro was indicted in SDNY as evidence he’s a dictator and overall bad guy”

Not even just for sale. You can’t even get most people to stop buying/consuming, because they all ‘need’ their Amazon and Apple and Netflix and shit.

Ok, Trump just announced we’ll be running Venezuela until a legitimate transfer of power occurs. Whatever the hell that means notably changes The likelihood that public sentiment turns very negative about this.

But of course people in power are already celebrating

Ducking lol…we’re not even going to install the opposition. We’re going to just allow the regime to continue with the VP in place but with exon getting access restored to the oil

You celebrate you south Florida rubes. You’ve been had again.

Despite saying in his original comments that they were going to run the country until whenever/whatever , and that they couldn’t allow someone just to pick up where Maduro had left off.
