Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

Europe and China I could definitely see doing it.

UK would likely roll over asking Trump for more belly rubs

Honestly it was something I came across on social media, and hence why I queried it. What wasn’t discussed was the impact if that pin is pulled. Sure it hurts the US but it will spread wider.

Regarding Europe not being coherent, every chance but I’d like to hope we just don’t shrug our shoulders either.

Of course this perfectly suits Putin and China matter what happens.

It is worse than that, countries will try and weasel a cushy deal with the US in the aftermath of the event - it there is one. There is no stomach for the fight in Europe. Germany has cars to sell, Italy wants a special relationship, the UK has a special relationship and everyone else is in between…

Sooo.. the US are also going to be running Gaza - there was always going to be something in it for the US and its businesses.

As pointed out already there will be a mixed reaction in Europe to a Greenland takeover. I doubt it will collapse NATO, as the other members involved will probably opt for some wimpy response such as censuring the US. How upsetting! Europe can’t afford to close down US military bases while maintaining the fiction that Putin threatens to invade. Starmer for one will do nothing because the UK is owned by the US. Six of it’s top 10 corporations are US owned, much of its property market and the financial sector is utterly embedded in US banking.
What is more likely is that market panic will set in and accelerate the de-dollarisation currently underway, with a run on US treasuries. The dollar will fall and trust erode in the US economy. All this stuff does is just drive BRICS and other global south nations into the arms of China, India and Russia. And so the long unwind increases pace.

If only!

So many of those things won’t happen without unified European resolve, and I think the deplorables know that and are betting that they won’t.

Just wanted to highlight this part.

Putin’s desire to expand is not fiction. Ask the people of Ukraine. And looking beyond, few would argue that Ukraine is the extent of Putin’s ambition. A strong deterrent is crucial in holding him in check.

Whether that happens with America as an ally, or whether Europe boosts its own independent deterrent as we go, remains to be seen. Probably a mixture of both.

I’m hoping there’s a string that snaps somewhere. No idea where and it might already be too late.

We’ve had this argument already but I’m sorry, the world’s biggest, resource rich country doesn’t need to expand and can’t afford to anyway. Only relatively recently Russia gladly returned half of Europe to its people because occupation had bankrupted it. You think Russia is keen to recreate the Cold War in Europe? Ukraine is a one-off created by the perceived Nato threat to Russia and will likely end within months. Russian-speaking Donbas had already declared itself independent from Ukraine before Putin invaded, which isn’t an excuse to invade but isn;t any evidence of a model Russia wants to repeat.
This kind of expansion garbage is churned out by Western intelligence and military to scare people into accepting their taxes being spent on over-inflated defence budgets to fuel the MIC. It’s about MONEY, as usual!
Russia is looking to expand, but only it’s economy, through BRICS and the Global South, piggybacking on China’s might. They’ve learned from China that creating infrastructure and service deals in developing nations is the way to create lasting influence, not through rockets and guns. There’s only one country right now that is looking to expand it’s borders by force.

Obejctively, verifiably bullshit.

Then please verify it by using an argument rather than your usual insults.

Or do you think Russia will invade the Baltics or Finland because it needs more trees?

Usual? Have we had a conversation before?
If you can’t see how this is obvious bullshit, you’re beyond help.

Like I said, you’re welcome to dispute this point by point. Do you ever stop to think you are maybe being brainwashed by Western governments and their tame media?

Russia has already expanded its borders by miliary invasion, including a constitutionalised annexation of regions. You’re disputing that?

That Nazi in Ukraine, right?

Lol. Not enough stars in the flag!

This is incredible. Ruffo is at the forefront of intellectualizing the right’s anti-immigrant position, decrying white replacement, has a Thai wife and brown kids.

Back before he joined the RW grift train he was a failing lib film maker and aspiring politician. Back then he pushed the story of his Thai wife’s “model immigrant” story, coming here illegally due to desperation, following the process and becoming a model citizen.

He’s now claiming that, coinciding with his RW turn, it turns out they stumbled upon evidence that she came here legally didn’t know about it and the family just invented the illegal immigrant story for reason.

No matter how lowly you think they think of their own coalition, they actually think even less of them than that

Nope, obviously it has but Ukraine doesn’t constitute a pattern, a geopolitical policy. It isn’t interested in annexing all of Ukraine either. Show me another country Russia needs to invade.
