You’re missing Harvey Elliot!
I’m all in favour of recruiting more british players. I have frequently bemoaned the fact we bring in second rate foreign players because they are supposedly oven ready. Chiesa is a prime example. I would love to see more local lads recruited. Where is the Owen, Rush, Fowler, McMahon, McManaman, McDermot, Johnson, Smith, Carragher, Gerrard etc etc etc of today.
The fact they were nearly all blue noses made it all the sweeter…
Again, I’m not saying Tuchel overlooked some options I would’ve took from Liverpool, it’s Liverpool’s situation that led to this that is disappointing for me. Not the end of the world (I said it doesn’t matter too much), but it might be also a sign what we might need to add or have soon…
Ivan Toney has changed a bit since moving to Saudi
Slot hasn’t trusted the young english players at the club and has managed to hound them out or to ignore them completely. Meanwhile, the recruiting team has only focused on fancy foreign players, and now our homegrown players situation is near to be catastrophic.
But maybe, it will force the club to again look at our prospects instead of ignoring them as Slot has done (bar Ngumoha to be fair). The new guy will definitely have to take a close look at them.
I can’t remember which PL match it was, my dad commented that there were no English (probably even British) player in the XI lineup in that match, while the opponent has about 5 English players. That’s the sad state of affairs at LFC. I still remember (mis-remember?) the days that each team could only have 2 non-British players. I feel old.
Edit: Just looked it up. Slot broke the Liverpool’s tradition. On 12-Feb-2025 at Goodison, Slot did not field an English player in the first XI. Slot did name four English players on the bench with Alexander-Arnold, Jarrell Quansah, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot .
On 17-Sep-2025: No English players against Atl Madrid in UCL. Freddie Woodman, Joe Gomez, Rio Ngumoha, and Jayden Danns among the substitutes, none started the match. Only Rio Ngumoha featured during the encounter, coming off the bench in the second half.
Im pretty sure 1986 is the last time, certainly for the world cup squad. The side in 85-86 was a famously “foreign”, with us being the first side in the 20th century to start the cup final with no English players. McMahon was really the only candidate from that side (sub that day). While the clamour wasnt huge for him in 86 Robson’s ongoing refusal to pick him became such a thing it made it into the into the Anfield Rap lyrics in 88.
Well Steve McMahon sure can rap
It’s about time he had an England cap
So come on Bobby Robson, he’s the man
Cause if anyone can, Macca can
Macca-can… Macca-can… Macca-can… Macca-can…
The web guy had gone lunch that’s why it was up for nearly an hour before they changed it ![]()
I assume it´s for experience but Henderson in (and Mainoo) and not Adam Wharton is a bit odd.
Get Wharton signed up nice and early then, if we can´t get Anderson.
I know Palmer had a poor season but he´s still twice the player than half the attacking options.
Palmer is shit. Always been
The entire squad is a bit of an indictment of Chelsea. Palmer has gone from golden boy to a bad enough season that he has justifiably missed out. Colwill missed out although that is easier to justify with how many meet ups hes missed through injury. Madueke leaves Chelsea and even as a back up at his new club makes the squad. Liveramento, a Chelsea academy players, makes it. Even beyond England, Joao Pedro missed out.
Redknapp ist ein Spinner
Since the 80’s, if I’m not mistaken.
Even apart from not providing a member in the England WC squad…Liverpool lose something when we don’t have at least a couple of established locals in the team. even better if they are scousers. We’ve recently lost Quansah, Trent, Elliott, We need to get some of that local energy back.
We absolutely should not be losing Jones. Do everything to get Danns and Wright integrated into the squad.
You mean Knob?
Fucks to give: none
This is where I am. Back in the day I was keenly interested. Somewhere along the way I’ve fallen out of love with international football.
I’m borderline on boycotting this one because of the horror show that is America, but there are two other countries hosting so it gets tricky.
I don’t have any feel for it, but I would imagine I will tune in, especially as it gets to the knockout stages and we start getting some bigger games.
My dog could be the England manager and get them to the QF. Let’s see if Tuchel is better.
Oh totally, but I was suggesting that was Tuchel’s perspective.
My bad. Yep, Tuchel does not care what others think. He will make his decisions and back himself. The fuss Maguire kicked up won’t even register.
