I agree except for Madueke for Dowman (too young). But none of these players who missed out would make Tuchel’s first team anyway, and neither will the ones who were chosen ahead of them.
A certain Man Utd fan on YT made the same point. Tuchel will pick his best eleven and will play that line up in every game barring injuries. If Trent, for example, had been selected he almost certainly would’ve spent the whole tournament sitting on the bench.
I used to regard the big international tournaments as the purest form of football, but I have been going off the World Cup for a while. The Euros seem like a better format to me.
I think the Brazil one was the last that felt like there was a real football culture to it. The Russian one was well organised, but felt like a Berlin Olympics PR exercise, and the Qatar one was a stale affair. No real fan culture and a plastic corporate presentation.
When the whole North American thing was announced, I did have hope, because they did a good job with the 1994 tournament. However, when I saw the kick-off times for the Scotland games (all in the wee hours) I could tell it was turning to corporate shit.
I’ll still watch some matches, but I can’t see me obsessing over a wall chart and planning my day around matches. I mean for 03:00 kick-off times, I’ll have to record matches and try to avoid the result like the Likely Lads.
Considering FIFA usually run a WC with 3 games per day, usually 3pm, 5pm and 8pm local times, and the West Coast is 8 hours behind UK, a 3am game is actually not that unusual as that would mean 7pm in Vancouver/California/Seattle.
Scotland are playing on the East coast, and one game, in the middle of the night, is against Morocco, who are in the same timezone.
There is no accommodation for global fans at all. It wouldn’t surprise me if they are going to choose officials to thow games on demand. Remember Clive Thomas?
Seeing the non-footballing watching racist twats coming out of the woodwork, commenting on Tuchal’ s selection, saying Harry MgGuire should be in the squad instead of Guehi is ridiculous. The state of this amoeba brained cow!
I saw that too, Maria—lots of really nasty, racist comments. I have to say that, unfortunately, we have idiots like that here as well. They always love crawling out of the woodwork on occasions like this.
By now, it is quite easy to see why some players were not selected—especially when they use family members, and in this case even their children, to stir up sentiment against Tuchel’s decision.
The little guy definitely didn’t write it like that himself. And why, for that matter, does a seven-year-old boy even have an Instagram account?
Perhaps Foden should’ve got his mum involved…she’d take on Tuchel…as she did the opposing fans at a boxing match..(i think it was a boxing match where he ran to his private box)..
Bunch of self-important entitled pr#cks and c#nts.
Served them right for not making the squad.
I’m never a fan of Tuchel but I fully support him in this instance. Touché!
