well, who loves international football anyway. bring on next season, i say !
England still have a long way to go yet. Italy, Belgium and Spain are still in it.
I remain thoroughly unimpressed with the way this England team plays but it seems to be effective. Although it has to be said that they are also riding their luck. The Germans had the better chances before Sterling scored and Mueller’s miss is inconceivable for someone of his experience.
Löw on german tv in a live interview. although i am not a fan of him he fucking deserves better questions…a sad display all around : do you regret anything ? anything in the past ? alls well that ends well ?
jesus, remember the kind of football we played before him ( including the klinsmann era ). to change that alone endears him to me.
What a lovely man Jürgen Klinsmann is, it was so nice to have him commentating.
He has a calming voice it’s nice.
Sterling man of the match for me- although lucky not to be punished by give away for Mueller’s miss. Think he should have been subbed off by then though, he was exhausted. Shaw also very good. Everyone else did enough, although saka and Kane not really at it again. Maybe Grealish will finally start a meaningful game? He was spark that brought England to life at the end. Probably go with Grealish and sterling with Kane next game. No idea how I would set up at the back. Ideally (for my own enjoyment) I’d pick Mount and Phillips in front of Rice in mid 3 and go with back 4, although team defended well today.
Not the German team I’m used to watching, they were missing something today, think England were deserved winners.
Group F was going to give us the winning team in this tournament, it turned into the group of slightly delayed death.
The drop off on Germany over the last 2 years has been ridiculous.
Sterling 15 goals in his last 20 games for England, after a very dry start to his international career.
He has had a decent tournament for me, best player in the first and this game.
The last couple of seasons of Wenger at Arsenal = The last couple of years of Löw with Germany. They will be back, unlike Arsenal.
It will be a major scandal if England don’t reach the final now.
Well stated. And it’s what gives me hope moving forward. Excited for the renewed sense of energy and identity Flick will instill.
Credit to England. I didn’t think they could win on this day. And all I can do is tip my cap and show them proper respect.
Happy for my brothers and sisters here in TAN community to enjoy this win.
A weirdly competent performance from England against a good team at an international tournament. Very rarely troubled today and always felt like they were in control of their destiny. Surely they have to make the final now, can only see a potentially inspired Denmark giving them a hard time from here.
We’ll see. I think one of the lessons from the last 15 years of international football is that unless you have a club core to lean on, you win international football by simplifying the game as much as possible and not losing the game for yourself. This England side is hiding its limitations by playing with more defensive minded players than most would like, letting the game come to them and then hoping their attacking talent can pull something out of a hat. That necessitates leaving talented players on the bench, but this is why they haven’t conceded yet, and also explains why they scored just 2 goals in 3 group games.
The more England are required to play, as they will surely be against both their QF and SF opponents, the more they have to expose their weak underbelly…and do so without actually being that competent at being progressive. I think it’s going to be a really interesting dynamic to see what they do against supposedly lesser sides. Is he going to be tempted to be a bit more expansive and expose themselves?
Rubbish and clueless manager though
Well deserved win for England.
