Anyway, I hope England are sensible with this and that there will be no overreactions. This team can be built upon and they can go again in the World Cup. England now has a competitive National Team, that can if things go a bit right, go maybe all the way even in a WC (although a bit unlikely, but still this team is much closer than ever). It has been quite some time since that.
I’m not harsh he learnt nothing from world Cup semi when England scored early again. On both occasions he became incredibly negative and nervous. He didn’t react to what the opposition were doing which lead to equalisers then never did anything then to influence game for us to win. Waiting till last minute of extra time to bring on two attackers illustrates this.
Fair enough. I just think the team he has built is very solid. England is hard to score against and has goal threats. I do have to agree with the subs though. But I do like Gareth’s team. But maybe not his game management, yeah, got to admit that I too was thinking along the same lines.
I hope the boys that missed the pens will get all the help needed now and that they better close their social media accounts immediately. They will get a world of racial abuse etc.
Grealish. Sterling too, but I wouldn’t want him taking a penalty anyway.
I find it amazing that a player as technically good as Grealish, Aston villa’s captain, didn’t take one ahead of a 19 year old. If he wanted to take it he’d have taken it. Definitely bottled it.
I fucking hate all the consoling the kid is getting with the camera focused on him. He is one of 3 to miss a penalty. I would be rightly pissed getting all the attention with the two others escaping it somewhat.
Southgate - after his idiotic comments In the friendly throwing Jordan under the bus, you just know he zealously micro managed the shoot out order.
Did well in creating a stable team, but reverted to his default safety first attitude in the final. That ten minutes before the inevitable equaliser was crying out for a sub.
