Americans aren’t really prudes about language, though. Today F-bombs are almost considered polite speech here. In thinking about this, though, it seems British men refer to other men as “cunts” where there American counterparts use the word “pussy,” which is probably just as offensive to women. So it’s probably just a vernacular thing.
At the end of the day both are misogynistic epithets by inference.
Linguistic anthropology is not exact, but all the likely origins of the word are very pro female, alluding to issues of strength and knowledge. In contract, the scientifically appropriate words for the female genitalia are all very patriarchial and view it only through the prism of what a penis can do with it.
Ergo, cunt is feminist and vagina is a mark of the patriarchy.
So you’re saying I can boost my feminist credentials with the missus by calling her a cunt?
Great!
So can I still call Lampard a twat or not?
I think you’ll need to mansplain her misunderstanding to her first. I understand that women love that.
Sorry to de-rail this thread even more but the C word has soooo many connotations, yes 100% of woman hate it and it’s probably THE worse swear word you can use (after Everton,United, city and chelsea) but depending on your sense of humour ,the company you keep and what situation you’re in it’s also worn as a badge of honour or a term of endearment where i’m from.
Feel like a dick for calling Timo Werner a cunt now
Ok will do. Do you think I should wake her to do this now (it’s midnight in Adelaide) or wait until she’s in a rush to get boys to school etc in the morning? Thanks for all your help Limie.
You misogynistic misandrist!
Well, he so rarely hits the target that a phallic epithet does seem in appropriate in his case.
Couldn’t help myself…Apologies…
Any chance I can blame it on UEFA?
UEFA say you can use the word, just not when you’re in the presence of Roy Keane or Fernandes because they’ll take special offense.
Cowardly, shitty little organisations. Standing in solidarity with marginalised people. Unless it pisses of the people doing the marginalising. It’s fucking pathetic.
It would honestly be better if they just didn’t bother. All they do, repeatedly across multiple issues, is reinforce the idea that it’s OK to pay lip service to these issues at convenient times, use them to bolster your own credentials, and abandon them when it’s difficult.
If they are anti-homophobia, that means pissing off homophobes. If they aren’t willing to do this, they don’t get to drape themselves in the rainbow flags for PR purposes at other times.
One of the things that I’ve always been mystified by is how offensive it is in America (worse than F-word) but seems to be thrown around a lot more across the pond. I can understand both perspectives on it. I usually tell my American friends that it’s the equivalent of calling someone a “dick” over there.
On another note, Shaqiri having a tournament so far, and his right-footed banger against Turkey showed weak foot quality that I didn’t know he had (the 1st deflected goal vs. MU doesn’t count).
Good news Scotland fans!
If you purchased your Scotland shirt during the Euros, you should still fall within the 14 day returns guarantee.
Definitely not the case. My wife uses it more than I do! Liberally, in fact. Then again, perhaps I give her more cause to use it than other women typically experience?
Spanish players don’t seem to know the words to their National anthem. Not one of them singing?
Has Szczesny made ANY saves this tourney??
Sweden up 1-0 in 3rd minute.
Without checking the background of all the players, at least 3 consider themselves Catalan and 2 Basque (one of whom is French Basque)
