Divock has been a squad player but in that role he’s been immense for us.
Calling him a legend I can live with that. Cult Hero probably describes it even better.
With that all said - Phil, Emre, Gini - that’s how he is going to end up.
And once again it’s going to be proven that it doesn’t matter if your name is Mo, Sadio, Virgil or Fabinho - if you leave Klopps Liverpool you’ll never hit the heights you’ve been used to here.
Yes, he’s had many amazing moments with Liverpool and given the fans fantastic memories. But I think his situation is different from the likes of Coutinho, Gini and Can because they played more regularly than Origi. Gini was ever present and never got injured. All three moved on because they thought they were going to bigger clubs for higher salaries. Divock has spent the majority of his time here, sitting on the bench or injured. I think he just wants to play more games now, as he won’t be going to Italy for the money and Milan are not likely to win the Champions League at the moment. I wish him all the best and thanks for the memories.
I wonder how is it that some club from Germany or France weren’t interested in him. Maybe it’s because of his wage demands or because they didn’t think he’d have any resale value because he’s slowly approaching his thirties? I imagine him easily scoring twenty goals per season in a league that’s as defensively open as these two.
Yeah, I think in a top 4 Bundesliga team he might score a good amount of goals, for someone like Dortmund or Leipzig. Would have been fun to see him in one of those teams.
As much as I like him, today is just the most Origi moment possible. His exit is announced, he’s ready for his grand farewell, and picks up a niggle that prevents him playing.
