Jurgen Klopp on Takumi Minamino:
“You cannot imagine how happy I am. He was the solution for four changes. He can play five positions really. Two 8s and all three up front. He’s here and important for us. We’re all so happy for him.”

I meant more or less what Klopp said here, @Walshy07.
Yeah, I don’t think any of those people who are so eager to put him on their list of who they would sell realise how much the manager values him… I don’t blame them much though, given how rarely Minamino appears. Hopefully he will get more opportunities to shine (but for the right reasons, we’ve definitely had more than our quota of injuries already this season).
What a feisty little fellow he has become this season.
Last night was the first game where he really looked like he belonged. Very positive signs.
Expected few minutes here and there since his last game.
Takumi Minamino becomes the first player since Vladimir Smicer in 2000-01 to score for the club in 3 successive League Cup games.
Loves the league cup
But shouldn’t take pens
If he was only a bit stronger or quicker… He looks like he could run 12km per game without any issues and press you into submission but if you push him slightly when he’s on the ball, he’ll lose his stride immediately. His first touch should be better, too, but I like his awareness, passing and finishing ability. That said, he probably isn’t best suited to the system where there’s no single attacking midfielder, I think he’d be much more effective playing centrally behind two strikers. He really should be playing closer to goal.
Taki takes a lot of shit, some of it warranted some of it not, yet he stepped up and scored when needed… The same can be said of Mane/Salah as well, some games just pass them by, nothing works then they score at the end. That’s key, the rest can be improved on.
He’s also constantly playing with a different set of players game in game out, must be near impossible to gain any sort of rhythm.
I think he’s a fantastic squad player to have, 26 so lots of time for him to grow.
That goal highlights his technical abilities and the reason why Klopp has hung on to him. He can get only better with more playing time, but unfortunately he got the likes of Salah and Mane ahead of him.
Good goal, crap first touch when Keita played him through (could’ve used his left to receive the ball and then shoot with his right), not a great penalty either (a bad attempt of Stevie style in Cardiff). I think there’s no drama here, he’s decent in some games, but I don’t see a long term future for him here. So whatever he does is a bonus for everyone and hopefully he attracts interest.
He’s a cheap as chips back up. No more, no less than that. He will never put any pressure on Jota, Mo and co but for games like this he’s a decent alternative. Took his goal really well. Had his big moment in front of the Kop. Not many get that feeling in their careers.
His goal was well taken, but lets not forget he also played a lovely pass/assist to Jota for his goal.
I think the more game time he gets, the better he will be. He should be getting some game time in Jan to replace Mane and Salah, and during that time he will play alongside more of the 1st team, so will look even better.
The same performance he’s been putting in all season, and even going back to his games for Southampton.
His general play was poor, but pops up with a fantastic finish and a nice assist. As long as he keeps contributing in front of goal he’ll get away with the sloppy play, but really he needs to up his contribution there if he wants to be considered an option for the first team.
It’s not for a lack of effort, hopefully he’ll just improve with age.
Not for the next month he hasn’t so fingers crossed he steps up.
Can’t argue with you there. Frustrating performance at times but injected with two moments of real quality
That consistency can only come from consistent playing time.
And consistent playing time can only come from earning it more and more.
