I don’t think that anyone has any idea what Alonso’s or FSG’s plans are. Even the journalists that are close to the club don’t have any real insight, and are reporting what they’re being fed.
Plus Elliott is someone we could have definitely used in spots this season to give others a break. Klopp did. Slot won’t. And the poor lad is getting far less playing time at Villa.
Ok, our ITK @Walshy07 is active on social media again. ![]()
Florian Wirtz has informed German national teammates and several of his former Leverkusen teammates, including Jonathan Tah, now at Bayern, that Sebastián Parrilla, Xabi Alonso’s long-time assistant at Leverkusen and most recently part of his staff in Madrid, has very recently reached out to him.
Jeremie Frimpong is also understood to be involved in these exchanges, with direct contact even with Xabi Alonso himself never having stopped, but what elevates this beyond routine contact is the depth and tone of the conversations, Parrilla is said to have asked highly specific and unusually concrete questions about life in Liverpool, the internal dressing room dynamic, the atmosphere around the club on and off the pitch, and even which structural or sporting aspects would require adjustment.
Inside those circles, Florian is increasingly indicating that his preferred outcome would be Xabi Alonso taking over at Liverpool, and the reactivation of contact at assistant level, combined with the detail and intent behind these discussions, is not being interpreted as casual or nostalgic communication. It points far more towards something deliberate, coordinated and quietly progressing in the background, with strong indications that Alonso and his staff are at the very least seriously exploring, if not already preparing for, a potential move into that environment.

Haha I was just coming here to post that
Dont blow my cover!!!
This Spurs result today shows how poor weve been under Slot. Spurs shouldve won last week. Been tonked by forest today…like we were
I also read about it in the German media; of course, it can’t be ruled out that there’s some truth to it and that someone talked. In my experience, someone always talks in Bavaria.
Has airport watch started yet?

Alonso is available, if we miss the opportunity to bring him in, I think we’ll regret it. We just can’t go into next season with Slot still in charge.
Of course, it assumes that Alonso would want the job. He certainly has a fondness for both the club and city, but I suspect the love that we as fans have for him is not necessarily replicated as a burning ambition for him to become our manager.
It was reported at Leverkusen that he had a Real/Bayern/Liverpool clause in his contract that would have allowed him to break it. Maybe his perspective and willingness to jump straight back into the hot seat is changed a bit after his Real experience, but I think most managers appreciate Real is a unicorn and understands first hand how Liverpool is a different club where the specific difficulties that undermined him there wont be present.
Please let me know when it starts. I will get my air traffic controller radio out and my binoculars, to see if the plane crosses into heathrow flight path. ![]()
Brilliant @Maria
He doesn’t like us, boyo.
Could be a friendly rivalry…if true.
Alonso and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta were neighbours on the same street while growing up in San Sebastián and later lived near each other in Liverpool while Arteta was an Everton player. Alonso convinced Arteta to transfer to Everton after he told him how happy he was living in Liverpool.
Personally not convinced he would be the right choice but hey ho. Ex players returning to their former clubs as manager come with inflated and probably unreasonable expectations from fans and I am struggling to recall a single example in recent times where it hasn’t ended pretty quickly. Apart from Arteta of course…
I would prefer a no baggage Nagelsmann type appointment.
IMO Xabi not being involved in the legends game at the weekend is a bit of an indication that there is some contact behind the scenes and he doesn’t want pull too much attention as long as Slot is still in charge.
We could try Nagelsmann for 18 months or even two years.
Nagelsmann is another unlikeable twat.
I heard on the radio, some LFC fans think Luis Enrique is a good choice for manager.
Personally, I would love our Jürgen back, but, this is what my heart says, my head is saying, I don’t know. Xabi Alonso seems an emotional choice as well.
