Fabio Carvalho (AM) Fulham

Klopp needs to get on the phone with his mates at BVB and get them to back off on this one. He’s being too nice to his former club by refusing to sanction deals with their players.

It’s out of Fulham’s hands if the kid sees it out for the rest of the season there without signing for them. That’s why i suspect Liverpool are pressing the matters now. If FFC doesn’t agree for this, they might lose him for next to nothing.

Matter of who blinks first. I’m not that fussed about it. If the kid wants to sign for us, he’ll sign for us and that will be based on our track record and Klopp. If he signs for Dortmund , all the best to him , They’ve got good pedigree in buying English footballers and turning them into stars. Either way , his career is sorted and well done to him.

If he signs for Dortmund he is shite and I didn’t want him anyway.

Right, you can finalize a deal with a club outside of the open registration periods. Today only matters as a deadline were we interested in playing him this season.

Fulham are still sore over the Elliott comp. Fair fucks to them. He’s a player I’d love to have as it would help set us up well for the future, but there will be others out there we can get.

I thought as much. No way you can expect to leech £15M for a player with six months left in his contract. I guess for Fulham it’s better to let him go for petty pennies to another club than lose another young talent to Liverpool. Bitter.

I’m not sure where the logic in that is, surely it’s simply just screwing themselves over?

Not sure about that. They’re coming up next season most likely, so will get plenty of money from that, and I’m guessing they’d prefer their player go to the continent rather than to a PL rival, especially one that they feel screwed them on the Elliott deal.

That’s exactly how much some want for Origi. Difference is one has scored in a Champions League final and one has scored in The Championship.

Not so sore that they didn’t come and do a deal with us on Wilson that we let them pay for a whole year later. You’d hope that would go some way to mend the relationship with us. And it’s not like we decide the tribunal fee either. The clubs have chance to negotiate it first and as I recall they wanted about £10m for Elliott and we tried to cheap them and offered about £1m. Tribunal just happens to fall about in the middle.

They won’t get £15m for him on a tribunal or as a development fee if he goes abroad instead. Here they get to keep the player for the rest of the season anyway and know what the deal is in the summer already and maybe even get a shot at having him on loan again next season.

They’re basically betting that they can either get him to sign a new deal or a tribunal will reward them with more than £7m which is difficult to see given the precedent set with Elliott. However, both sides have now put a valuation on him so maybe it will go in their favour. They’ll probably point to the fee Dortmund paid for Bellingham as an example but it’s an expensive gamble gone wrong if he goes to abroad for for a few hundred thousand instead.

Can’t cry over a player I never saw for a few bobs.

If we really want him, we should have what it takes to get it sorted until next summer in a different way.

No panic for me.

I could be reading something that isn’t there but that’s the impression I am getting from Neil Jones. The player prefers to assess his options in the summer, not necessarily desperate for a move to Liverpool right now.

He’s betting on himself and I am completely ok with that. This is a kid that has said he wants to win the Ballon D’Or.

The main benefit to us of signing sooner rather than later is the certainty it brings. We have lots of question marks over Salah, Mane and Firmino with signing new deals and getting older. It is difficult to see all three signing a new deal and getting older on our books. Most likely one new deal, one sale, and one expires or modest extension. Just guess work though.

I’m not saying Carvalho is anything like good enough to replace any of them now. In time he might be - that’s up to the club to assess. But at the least, here and now, he could come in and be part of the pack, and then let’s see how we go. If we sign him, it gives us a bit more certainty as to the options we have moving forward.

If we have met with him and his parents behind the scenes and we know that he wants to come here, then we can rest easy that it will happen. The only variable then might be between clubs. Do Fulham want the money on the table, or do they want to roll the tribunal dice again?

Arguably we could do a deal to really help Fulham and also get the player. Buy him now, for a likely midpoint number between tribunal and what they are asking, and also loan him back for the rest of the season. Several have said that.

Now the extra ingredient. As part of the Carvalho deal, agree to loan Gordon to them next season, assuming they are promoted to the Prem. He might help them fill a Carvalho shaped hole, while a promising young player of ours gets some valuable Prem experience as he grows as a player.

maybe banking on the fact that the arbitartion sees it fit to give a price midway between both valuations

I think Carvalho is a couple of years older than Elliot when he signed for us? If that is the case, presumably the tribunal fee will be higher, as he is more proven?

10M now. Loan back for rest of season. At a pinch loan Gordon to them next season too.

Jobs a good un.

And if they don’t play ball, we will send the debt collectors around for the full Wilson fee.

All gone quiet for the last few hours. Anyone want to guess at what time the usual pack start tweeting that it’s not happening? I’m going 8:30-8:45.
