I would assume that before any real progress was made on the negotiations, the players medical record, at least specific to his knee repair, would be known - if nothing else, the hosptial/surgeon(s) that fixed it up. I don’t imagine there are that many doctors/surgeons that do these repairs on professional athletes and therefore their workmanship is well known.
If it’s been done by some vet in some back room at Juves medical centre, the deal wouldn’t have got this far…I assume.
