Kind of wild when you meet a Haitian dude with a Polish last name.

Just watched the highlights.

I’m glad the Arsenal B side lost.

Probably the most telling thing about B-H is the fact that they are very likely to start a 40-year old Edin Dzeko. He wasn’t fast a decade ago. B-H will try to control the pace (and they have some skilled players) and try to ensure that Canada’s athleticism will not take over. That is a somewhat easier task than anticipated with Alphonso Davies not available for at least the first match. Bombito (CB) is also a miss in that regard. Should be a struggle with both sides trying to dictate a style of play.

So what kind of result do you expect? A draw? You have the crowd on your side, which should help you in theory.

Two games in and in the US Fox has violated the licence agreement on both regarding cutting away to ads. They are technically allowed to do it at their discretion but can cut away for no more than than 130 seconds of the 3 min break and must be back no later than 30 seconds before the end of the scheduled break. Fox has missed the restart twice.

I think a narrow Canada win is the most likely, but an early Bosnia goal would put a lot of pressure on Canada. That said, an early Canada goal would force Bosnia to completely change their expected game plan. Canada has been playing well lately as well.

I do expect it will be played in a good spirit, certainly from the fans’ side. One of the regiments that was involved in ‘peacekeeping’ in Bosnia (it was not very peaceful) held a welcome event last night in Toronto for all fans.

Helps that Toronto Stadium is near the lake shore, in sort of a transitional area between the real downtown core and the inner residential neighbourhoods. Lots of public transit to get there, really very different from most of the US venues. Unlike the Meadowlands public transit, the only different right now is the lines are all running later and three times as often, standard fares.

My local has a licence extension for tomorrow night, few mates going down.
Not really getting the buzz, I’ll find out the score when I wake up Sunday morning

Their biggest problems the past 20 years is that they only select pros based in Europe who after a while learn to play in a straight jacket instead of selecting at least 5 homegrown players who still play in Brasil. In the 50s/60s/ and 70s they produced many skilful world superstars like pele Garrincha claudoAldo jairzinho gerson tostao and many more.

Watching the pre-match shows right now. Surprise to say, I am actually enjoying this. (I don’t normally watch any pre-match shows).

I don’t think that is the real problem - I think the fundamental problem is that those homegrown players are nowhere near the best of their cohort. The best young Brazilian players are picked over by top clubs, the next step down are picked up Portuguese clubs to develop, the level after that play a few more years and are picked up by clubs in 2nd and 3rd tier European leagues. Neymar was something of a unicorn for staying with Santos until he was 21.

I’m going to record it and watch ‘as live’ on Sunday morning.

I watched the 1998 matches live in pubs on Sauchiehall Street, and essentially it was just an excuse to get drunk.
