Sounded like it was used incorrectly in last night’s match according to BBC.

"Mistaken identity can only be used for a specific incident, when the referee “has clearly penalised the wrong player”, according to the wording of the International Football Association Board (Ifab). “The offence itself cannot be reviewed.” Mistaken identity does not appear to cover an opposing player incorrectly being booked when someone has dived.

Well-placed sources have told BBC Sport Makkelie’s decision was wrong, even if it felt right.

World governing body Fifa is yet to clarify the situation."

Yeah every report describing it as using that clause made no sense. They rerefereed the game to correct a decision even after the game had restarted. It’s the correct decision but it is a BIG line to cross in terms of what people say they want from VAR. The fact people are praising it for being “common sense” despite it running SO counter to everything they claim they want from VAR is I think a pretty good illustration of why we’re in such a big fucking mess with this thing

He was actually born in Denmark. It came up in an interview when he played for Falkirk, as he had a noticeable Mancunian accent.

Ah right.

I know I could have googled to be fair, I’m just being lazy. His schooling would have taken place here hence the accent I guess.

Yeah Haaland was born in Leeds when his dad played there, but Alfie only had about a year of top level football left in him with his knees and the impact of that tackle, and so they went back to Norway when Erling was still an infant.

I think this is a different angle of the one Livy shared above - regardless, the best cop since the boston slide cop a couple of years ago

Watching Qatar v Switzerland and noted that Powerade is all over the advertising hoardings.

Idiocracy springs to mind.

VAR fail again. :person_facepalming:

I thought that was offside. Must have been very close.

I thought the 1st ball was offside, then the pass was also offside. Probably the camera position.

Looked pretty clear to me, for the knock down header

Even Lee Dixon agrees, then he used to appeal for offside with back passes

Not offside? And no replay with the lines?

Nice to see Breel Embolo has awoken from his 4 years in hibernation though.

Looks offside, I think the first is border line as it’s his shoulder so who knows the second header is for sure.

Another vomit inducing camera shot right there.

Love that “the technology is pin point and a lot sharper”
“Can we have a look?”
“No”

ITV’s referee analyst pops up to defend them “the technology is so advanced”

The technology is faulty.

How is that a foul outside the box? And a yellow card for that?

I want at least a line or visual to show us how onside it was. As the second one wasn’t at all onside.

I really think they’ve only reviewed the first. The first could easily been onside as I’ve seen it in Live action but the camera is rather straight and on the second he’s almost a player offside.

Just checking if there is anyone with nothing better to do than watch Qatar…

And there are indeed a few apparently..

Not for me.

Though I have put a quid or two on it. Had Embolo first to score so half won.

Turkey later today, details on screen… later today being 5am tomorrow.
