I wasn’t sure how Messi’s current level would translate to the World Cup. I expected him to be increasingly peripheral but so far he has looked sharp, and that was a lovely goal.
As one of the best to ever play the game he has adapted, and he is still dangerous and influential.

TSN Panel talked about Macca glanced and have some idea where Messi was, so he let DePaul’s pass straight through him directly over to Messi. We need this football smart Macca back.
Also they talked about that Messi raking the calf of the Algerian player would warrant a red card for any other players as it is reckless.
That’s a poacher goal. @Sweeting will say (and I agree) that the keeper was at fault in palming the ball straight in front rather than to the side out of the danger zone. Easy pick up by Messi.
