If you thought the Federico song worms into your head, try this. Joe Dolce putting forward his tune here for a new song… All we need is for @Alright_Now_Legend to provide the stanza :0)
Wirtz a matter you - HEY..! Gotta No Respect - HEY..!
PS… I wonder if the guy on the accordion is still strutting his stuff.!
You gotta remember that Romano is paid per tweet and the interactions with it.
For every tweet he sends and people respond with “Yeah bullshit mate” that earns him money.
The guy is a millionaire - he has 24m followers who live for his tweets no matter if deals aren’t 100% done or fall through.
This deal i guess is 99.9% done but he earns the £££ if his tweet goes out first - then all those other accounts follow.
Bring back Ceefax!
A question for our German friends (if the answer can be generalised at all): what’s the consensus among Leverkusen fans with regards to Wirtz’ departure? Is he leaving with their blessings?
He isnt going to Bayern, and they are probably pocketing close to double what they were expecting just a few months ago so i cant imagine they will be that sore over losing him…
I don’t think it’s possible to find a consensus among any fanbase in any situation.
I don’t know, I look at it that Leverkusen aren’t really a massive club, German fans can be pretty down to Earth and realistic about their team’s chances, there is time of change with Xabi leaving and they were probably well aware that Wirtz is also nearing his time to go for something bigger.
He’s been part of their first team for 5 and a half years. Won stuff. What else is there left to prove, within Leverkusen’s capabilities? Not much.
The amount of money will I’m sure ease their pain, as they now try to build something new under a new coach.
Of course, it’s natural for everyone to want the club to generate maximum revenue. Even though his leaving makes most people sad, they comprehend that he aims to advance in his development. I discovered many posts where they expressed gratitude to him for the amazing memories and conveyed their best wishes, among other sentiments.
Nobody seriously expected him to stay, and everyone is relieved that at least he isn’t going to Bayern.
edit
I will rather not go into what I think of the assessments of some here
All of the exits they are experiencing this summer were roundly expected last summer. Probably driven by Alonso’s decision to stay they had the very rare opportunity to try to run it back, and I’d imagine the overwhelming majority of the fans were fully aware it was a last dance for this group.
I have two friends who are Leverkusen fans, season ticket holders. Which isn’t a bad number, considering how many fans they have overall (though their numbers seem to be going up since last season).
Like others said, they were happy Wirtz and Alonso even stayed for last season, and they’re getting good money, not losing them to Bayern. They’re not at the top of the food chain, but also hardly at the bottom, got that title curse off their back, could be worse for them really.
They’ll be happy that their gem goes abroad, and not to Bayern. Besides, milking an English club is always enjoyable. It’ll count almost as much as a trophy.
