“ready to pay whatever it takes, whether 100 or 150m”
Edwards approving blank cheques? Hmmm

It’s a shrewd negotiation tactic, only give them two options.
Bayer Leverkusen probably don’t want to sell to Bayern. But wouldn’t matter of Wirtz has made up his decision to go to Bayern.
This was based on the twatty troll account.
How dare you. You fear @walshy. I can tell.
Well, it’s pretty close to what you hear in the German media here. Apart from the presentation of the project, etc., that’s pure speculation. What is true is that Bayern have been interested in Florian for a while, but his parents have always blocked it because they wanted him to develop in a good, down-to-earth environment. That was the case with Alonso in Leverkusen so far. Now that the Alfonso effect is no longer there, people in the Bayern camp were very certain that the transfer would definitely work out, and that was communicated externally. Much to the annoyance of the Wirtz family; I do think there is some aversion there to this arrogant Bayern attitude. And that’s perhaps exactly why Liverpool has a chance, if they act cleverly and professionally, offer a solid and interesting alternative, and don’t go along with the haggling over money, because it’s clear that Munich don’t want to pay that much.
Yeah usually they just waltz to their signing often on a sum you think others could fork out. Seems they’ve done the usual and found another team is willing to now bow down.
I still doubt it’ll happen, but above all I hope it doesn’t drag on too long. We don’t want to spend weeks waiting for him in vain while other targets are snapped up. There’s still a lot of business to be done this summer.
I have to say that reading this thread has become quite entertaining lately…
I love the rumours that Bayern aren’t ready to pay 120m or whatever, but that the situation is complicated for them because we are ready to pay ‘whatever needed’ to get the lad. The people nurturing these rumours must be confusing us with Abu Dhabi…
Maybe we have a chance of landing this lad, maybe not, but knowing Edwards, we are certainly not ready to pay over the odds for him.
To be fair, it’s similar to the Caicedo situation where we were willing to step in when Chelsea refused to pay Brighton’s asking price.
Indeed, but the touted price wasn’t as astronomical as this one.
We have more money now than we did then, and Wirtz appears to be considered more of a generational talent than Caicedo was, so you would expect his price to be higher.
Wonder how many posts this thread will reach before people wake up and realise there isn’t a cat in hell’s chance this happens. How many lessons do people need?
Remember the Alex Teixeira days??
This thread is piddling.
Well, you might be right, who knows? I for one would be very surprised if this comes off, but we’ll see I guess…
I am opening to seeing where this goes. We spend big if we think the player is worth it.
Answer is the same as how many bikes does a cyclist need? “n + 1”
He’ll be very expensive for anyone, one of the two genuinely world class German talents and the one that might be available, likely a career defining move for him. Bayern is the obvious choice, but with our reputation of how well the club has been run for years now, he’d be stupid to not at least carefully consider it, if we’re seriously interested. Imo.
The other being Musiala, I presume? Liverpool’s interest aside, I’m genuinely interested to see what Bayern have in mind for him and Wirtz as, at least in my opinion, both are at their best when operating centrally, behind the main striker. I never got the impression that German national team found a way to fit them both into an effective starting XI.
