Florian Wirtz (AM) Bayer Leverkusen

I must say this every year, I work in Real Estate and I wish some of you guys would buy a house off me, as I would love to negotiate with you. I would then make my sellers so happy with how much money I got for them!!!

Have patience ffs

I think world class can only be defined by what you have done but does not automatically carries it indefinitely. Just remember the number of supposed world class players that have moved to another club and failed. LFC had some of these supposed very good players in the past but just did not live up to expectations. Wirtz is young, and have done great things with BL. But while you can say he is world class there, does not mean he will be definitely be world class here, or else it will be easy then, always buy the best players with the best stats and we will surely win. So I think the truth is always somewhere in the middle, the club employs great scouts and analysts who tried to minimize the risks and our club has a good track record in that. We have a great coaching team who can coach even the most normal of players into world class ones. But the larger the fee, the larger the risks, and to wave away those concerns that some might have, just because oh he has done great things at BL and looks really good so he will definitely succeed at Liverpool. Both sides of the argument are valid so I find it very bemusing when either side insists they are correct. There is no correct here. There are only opinions and the only definite thing we can do is to support the club in its decisions whether we think it is correct or not in terms of transfers.

“Liverpool pursuing 2 transfers with Premier League window to close and reopen”

Liverpool are currently working towards the transfers of Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez but the transfer window deadline is looming before it reopens next week.

The summer transfer window is a little different this year to accommodate the Club World Cup, with a mini window added for clubs to complete their business.

The early window opened on June 1 and will close at 7pm (BST) on Tuesday, enabling teams in the Club World Cup to register players for the tournament.

Liverpool, of course, have already taken advantage themselves despite not competing in the United States this summer by signing Jeremie Frimpong.

It is a short wait, however, before it reopens on June 16 and then closes on September 1, after the new Premier League season has already got underway.

So although the window does shut on Tuesday, it will not stop Liverpool’s pursuit of Wirtz or Kerkez – it simply means neither can be registered as squad members if a deal sheet is not completed by Tuesday evening.

Thankfully, there are less than six days between the two windows and it will not throw a spanner in the works as negotiations will continue over Liverpool’s transfer targets.

Wirtz and Kerkez deals

The club saw their third bid worth up to £113 million for Wirtz rejected by Bayer Leverkusen but optimism remains that a deal is within reach, with the German side reported to want a package of at least £118 million.

The 22-year-old has chosen Anfield as his destination this summer and the Times‘ Paul Joyce reported on Sunday that “the expectation remains” a deal will be struck.

A deal of this magnitude was never to be completed swiftly and although the consistent non-updates can prove tiresome, a breakthrough looms for a club record transfer.

As for Kerkez, Liverpool remain in contact with Bournemouth – the Cherries value the left-back at £45 million but Richard Hughes will be keen to drive that figure down.

“Transfer blow to Liverpool as window shuts without deals”

Probably a couple of German bank holidays in that period anyhow.

There is one on the 19th which is just after the transfer window reopens (it closes this evening at 19:00 and reopens next Monday).

I think the date we need to keep an eye on is 7th July, which is when training resumes at Kirkby. I would imagine that, ideally, Slot wants all business settled by then so that he knows who he is working with. It would also be advantageous if any incoming players are here by the beginning of the month so they can sort any personal arrangements in advance.

I think it’s a bit of a non-issue as you can complete deals outside of transfer windows, you just can’t register those players yet… which isn’t a problem as preseason hasn’t even started yet and most players are either already on holiday or will be shortly after these internationals have concluded.

It doesn’t much surprise me.

I’ve plotted my holiday around them as some Museums didn’t seem to bother open in the week I went.

Anyhow it doesn’t much matter as the deal can be done and the charge sheet just goes in after. We won’t get the leans and so on for a week or so but we will probably get the usual “deal agreed in principle” media post.

Yeah, sure. You said “No one can guarentee that he will become a world class player” - that’s what I reacted to, I think there’s an argument to say he’s already there or at least pretty close to it, as opposed to just sheer preceived potential, that certain clubs tend to splash a load of money on just because they can.
Of course it still doesn’t always work out and there’s a risk involved, I’ve already acknowledged, it’s just a load of money.

He’s not old, he might not be at his peak yet, but he’s not really a young unproven player anymore.

This is not buying an expensive talent that we hope will provide when he’s 25. He’s been brought in to be a key player immediately and has the quality to come in and be that.

Is he a serial winner who proved it at a top club? No, but he was part of a high quality footballing side that surprised with a few trophies in Germany.

Is he one of the world’s best players in his position or the zone he occupies? Yes, he is.

Is he one of the world’s best players overall? Perhaps not among the very, very best (players who are deciding matches and trophies year in year out), but he’s not far from that crop.

We’re buying a player who’s value is among the world’s top 10.

The nonsense on This is Anfield about racing the transfer window is disingenuous and down right disappointing.

Wouldn’t be surprised after getting Kerkez, Frimpong and Wirtz we don’t bring in anymore players and just recoup some of the money from player sales. Let a leftback go, dont need three. Maybe Elliot goes because we would have Wirtz. Fringe players in the squad like Morton moved on.

Could see us going with Nunez for another season even though there is alot of rumours he could leave. Also could see us going with the CBs we have for another season even though Konates contract is up next summer. Not much talk of Gomez going this summer. Probably also want to see how Quansah develops next season before going into the market.

Klopp was all about Blackpool.

Is Wirtz in Ibiza? Slot’s there again, the mad raver.

Conversely, I’d be stunned if he was still here next season.

It was the position where Slot seemed least sold on. Despite no one else making a claim for the role Darwin was still mostly on the outside looking in. Slot fired a couple of public rockets his way and didn’t get a response. Alternatively there was praise and adulation after a couple of potential breakthrough moments but that didn’t get the desired response either.

I just struggle to see how in a new manager’s second summer, the first in which he is being heavily supported to put his own stamp on the side, that a player like that gets another shot. Especially when he likely still retains a fair sell on value. Now linking this back to Wirtz, I acknowledge we dont know what role he is being earmarked in, but I cannot shake that the most obvious is as a Bobby replacement, someone who can play instead of (primarily) Jota up front or, as needed, alongside/behind him, making even less room for Darwin.

I heard that the position in mind for Wirtz, with his unique abilities, has its own blueprint. What this entails is an unknown, but it is part of the reason AS sold LFC as a club to the lad… If true, I reckon 4D Chess Pep, is playing catch-up to our Arne
Guess time will tell next season :person_shrugging:

That’s interesting. I was watching the last couple of German internationals, and I couldn’t pin him down exactly. There were a few elements that I could see being useful although the quality of the games wasn’t much to base anything on.

I am wondering whether he is intended to be a sort of Firmino/Gerrard hybrid. Sometimes players just define their own position. For example, Beckenbauer with the “libero” role.

The main positional question for me is whether or not there will be another striker playing in front of Wirtz. I can see various permutations with him either as a false 9 or a 10, but the key is going to be whether or not there will be a striker in front of him.

I could be miles off, but I think we will sign Ekitike as well as Wirtz, but we will need to do a few sales after (presumably) wrapping up Frimpong, Wirtz and Kerkez.

We aren’t selling anyone even if we sign all those because FSG want to add the most vaunted Net spend champions trophy to keep fans happy.
