Football League I would assume have the final say on as suggested in the article below considering they were discussing with DAZn which would have ended the blackout.
Ultimately they went with Sky whose deal is explained below, effectively the 3pm blackout during international weekends will finish from next season.
Sky will also show 6 games at lunchtimes on Saturday as well as more games at other times, effectively 800 more games.
All league cup games will also be shown as well as EFL trophy (so we will be able to watch our U23s).
As suggested it wouldnât surprise me if the PL do a deal to show a 3pm kick off and even expand to a Saturday night game.
I reckon we will probably end up with an expanded PL fixture list every weekend and it wouldnât surprise me if we even see any games not being shown at some point.
I do think those games on a Sunday that are moved for Europa but not shown will end up being broadcast by the company that is showing the other 2pm games (which is currently Sky).
According to that itâs not their decision to make, itâs the decision of the football league.
And if itâs part of an agreement under this âfuture of footballâ then they will accept it.
As for Saturday night games they are once in a blue moon but if they are a option to expand the profile of games I expect they will seek it. The only interest in this deal 6 years ago was Amazon thatâs going be far wider this time what with DAZn and others actively looking.
Thatâs 8 games and there is the potential for Sunday at 7 (and Sunday allows for Europa Games)
Then on that basis you have one game on a Saturday at 3pm, FA arenât going kick a stink up if they agree for that to be shown.
Also showing games at 12 or 1 on Sunday would help with the Asian market.
Only other way they will go is selling almost the entire thing to one broadcaster with another broadcaster getting the choice of game that weekend. The way the football league have gone as well as the stink some companies that bought European leagues have created that blackouts going go in the next football league deal. PL is going want to maximise its profit and though sky arenât bothered with Luton Vs Sheffield United a few companies may gobble up those games if it also includes the likes of Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd and Arsenal on every other weekend which it likely will over time, letâs face it if your granted the late and early slots on Sunday then you might often get Liverpool, Brighton and Villa games next season. If you only get 8pm on Saturday you know all 4 CL teams will be open to your slot.
Iâd much prefer PL TV frankly but Iâm not sure how that will work and if Sky or BT/TNT are still getting Liverpool Vs Man Utd and thatâs blacked out on the PL Tv then the value is far less.
In 10 to 20 years youâll get a go between a bit like Spotify when effectively they know they canât keep doing TV deals in a linear way. I do wonder if this Sky/FL deal is an attempt to trial that as Apple have done with MLS.
I think the biggest issue with Sky/BT is that you can pay ÂŁ60 a month for both services and yet you still get the games they select - so if you are not a top 6 team supporter you rarely see your team on Sky.
You have to remember there is very little blocking the league from setting up like I mentioned.
Sky and BT seemed disgusted they had to show games of the lesser teams during Covid but then just did a 1000 game deal with the FL.
I assume their approach has eithier shifted or they did it due to the threat from DAZn so it will be interesting to see if thatâs replicated in the PL. would not surprise me if we see 8 games a weekend.
Are the sentencing remarks available anywhere? I have a feeling itâs a combination of:
copyright infringement, essentially the bootlegging matches
the fraud involved in hacking individual accounts/boxes to provide the streams
potentially tax evasion?
The thing that annoys me is that you canât even listen to, say, Radio Merseysideâs live commentary of 3pm matches within the UK as the rights issues wonât allow them to broadcast them online. (And that BT is insanely expensive if you arenât subscribing as part of an existing Sky subscription or via your BT broadband - we have Now Sports and itâs not available as an add on. ÂŁ20 a month for Now Sports feels like a lot these days as it is!)
Yeah BT is going have to lower its offer because frankly at the moment itâs not a profitable price point.
I assume TNT will try some stuff.
As for the case they were basically making a business off it, seemed to suggest from the BBC that they wonât bother with those who purchased the service however they do have details of every single one.
A friend of mine rang to cancel his BT sport for the summer. They asked why and he explained that he only watched the football. They then offered to let him keep it for a nominal ÂŁ1 a month for the next three months.
A friend of mine had something similar a couple of seasons ago rang up to cancel bt sports for summer months and they left it on but didnât charge him.
Because while they can prove these people paid for a subscription, they canât prove what they did or didnât watch. I mean, I only watch FTA channels on mine.
