Must be something in the sea air at Brighton.

Brighton are in talks with veteran English midfielder James Milner, 29, over a new deal with the club. (Athletic - subscription required)

More seriously. I’m sure we all wish Taiwo a swift recovery. I wonder what kind of serious abdominal injury could result from colliding with a post?

Probably because his dad looks a typical Scot.

Eating seagulls is the new fountain of youth.

Without knowing the details, a blunt force to the stomach can cause even ruptured organs like the spleen etc. Hopefully he recovers well.

Wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.

Does that include eating depictions of seagulls?

The abdomen has no protection and a lot of delicate organs relatively close to the surface, so impact injuries in this area are an underappreciated risk. And in lots of cases like this one, the damage is not immediately evident.

Did you know former Liverpool player Sadio Mané who is currently playing for AL Nassr

  • Built a school for €270,000
  • Built a hospital for €530,000
  • Gives every family €70 a month
  • Provides free clothes for kids
  • Brought 4G network to his village through a partnership with Orange
  • Opened a gas station with Oryx Senegal
I’ve never seen a pro player love his homeland, especially his village, like Sadio Mané.

I think he’s still looking for the right porn video

Yes, I did know. Those stories came out when he was still with us.
Must be annoying for the people in the next village though.

I dont mean this as a way to dismiss this, more as something you’d probably love reading, but look up the former NBA player Dikembe Mutombo who was from Zaire/DRC

Poking around a few different forums and there seems to be a strong suspicion that he’s suffered a perferrated/ruptured intestine, which makes some sense.

A girl I went to school with wrapped her car around a tree on night a few years after we graduated and ruptured her intestines and was put into a medical coma to keep her body still whilst she healed from the surgery

Yeah, intestine is possible and is the sort of slow burning problem that might not be apparent for a day or two. But there is any number of blood vessels that could have ruptured or even an organ like the spleen that could result in internal bleeding, again a rate slow enough that you dont pick up on it for a day or so.

When people worry about the risks of the bench press it is normally about dropping it on your head/neck. More commonly a problem though is people who get pinned by the a failed rep and then roll the bar down their chest onto their abdomen allowing them sit up and tip the bar off. What can often happen in that situation is the bar creates a sheer force as it rolls down the unprotected soft tissue below the rib cage and as soon as it gets to a blood vessel it rips it apart. People will shake off the embarrassment and go home then put themselves to bed and never wake up.

Was brought out of his coma after the 2nd surgery last night, so hopefully things are on the up for Taiwo, but I imagine he still has a lot of recovery to go through.
