Former players and managers - general discussion

Didn’t remember this guy at all. Just looked him up and I notice in 14 years as a pro and after being with 14 clubs, he made just 159 appearances. That’s only 11 per season. I assume he spent a lot of time injured then
or on the bench
or maybe he just wasn’t that good. GĂ©rard Houllier did sign quite a few rather average French youngsters.

Grégory Vignal

Oh boy actually forgot this guy and a quite forgettable character he was.

He almost fluffed that one, I went mad at the same time as I was celebrating.

:joy:

Text book Kuyt though. Turns a simple 5 yard pass into an awkward bobbling ball.

I always thought of Vignal as similar to Heggem - in that they were both much more talented than we ever got to see.

Bruno Cheyrou. I was raking my brain for this name when I wrote about Vignal last night.

He did break the curse of Stamford Bridge though (Ignore the stupid commentary which was obviously added years later).

This should be in the Jokes thread for the subtitles alone. Absolutely hilarious.

Didn’t want to open a new thread.

Was thinking about a Liverpool starting 11 with players who were often or long term injured for a few times.

?
Clyne Matip Agger Aurelio
Lucas
Ox Lallana
? Sturridge ?

Any suggestions to complete this team or write down your own team.

Think Torres also deserve to be mentioned, right?

Oh, and how good does that Matip / Agger partnership sound? Lucas in front of them

Kirkland in goal; Smicer and Kewell in the wide positions?

I’d also have Rob Jones at right back instead of Clyne.

Kewell for sure, Smicer nah. He was fit most of the time, but nothing special. Rather Berger. Sure we could find someone else though.

Owen’s injuries only started when he left, Was Morientes injured or just shit?

From memory, I think it was more age abd lack of playing time caught up with him

Hmm he was only 29 when he came here and went on to have a couple of years at Valencia.

I just remember him being very poor.

Really? Fuck my memory must be really shite as I thought he was into his 32-33 when he played for us

Nah, he was fit, but just a bit too slow for this league. Had a good little spell of form in late 2005, when we went on a 10 league wins streak.
