Former players and managers - general discussion

The pitch was like a snooker table compared to some I played on, around the same time.

I was on the Kop for that one. Absolute magic.

that picture is pure footballing porn.

thats the time i fell in love with this club…and i had zero coverage…just the results in the paper on a monday and a shhot and a match magazine that took four weeks to get to Oz…

It’s gorgeous even for someone of my generation.

To see some of our best players ever in those different kits from the mid/late-80’s…

This is probably the most beautiful Liverpool home shirt I’ve ever seen (it helps that there’s no sponsor, since it was Phil Neal’s testimonial game).

Just look at that, absolute perfection.

And from a time when footballers didn’t look like bodybuilders but could actually, you know, play football.

I liked the one from slightly before then, with the yellow pin stripes. Aesthetically I think the earlier pure reds were nicer, but that early 80s one just triggers my nostalgia more

Barnes was my first ever favourite player. Perhaps that had a lot to do with his rapping, but he just seemed so cool on and off the pitch.

The abuse he received from England fans was disgusting, i remember being at Highbury watching the arse fans throwing bananas on the pitch as he ran down the wing and similar at upton pk and Loftus rd.

I mean… from what I’ve seen he must have been absolutely amazing to watch in his pomp. Even when he couldn’t run anymore and largely stood centre mid - which is the John Barnes I watched - he was usually the best footballer on the pitch. Seemed to never lose the ball, could shield it like nobody else back then, at least that’s how I remember him. Flawless touch, technically perfect, so intelligent.
