Georginio WIJNALDUM: 2020/21

Don’t it always seem to go,
That you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone…

Gini makes a great turn, controlling the ball off his shoulder, taking 2 seasoned RM players out of the game. But Gini is still shite.

Asensio controls a long ball very well, only to beat ONE defender of ours, who isn’t even close to being our first choice. But the lubricants and tissue papers are out.

Unbelievable.

We were excellent for the first hour last night. We created chances from applying pressure all over the pitch but particularly in the midfield and Gini was a big part of that. It’s how we played during the period when we were genuinely the best team in the world.

Three years ago I’d be saying the same things about Gini that people are saying now, the invisible man, doesn’t create or score enough, what the fuck does he do? All those criticisms were valid then but they have not been since. There comes a time when you have to accept that if JK is picking a player every game then he must be doing what the manager tells him to a high level of quality. Either that or JK is an idiot and I don’t think he is.

Yes, this season Gini has been below his best but you can say that about every player in our squad. Yes, he missed a sitter last night but how many have Mane, Salah or Firmino missed this season? I think the knives are out because he’s leaving. Well, good luck to him. Been a great servant to the club on relatively low wages.

I find Gini plays his best when we are playing at a super high intensity… He will make sure we keep the ball, and in doing so he keeps up that pressure, he has great stamina so he can keep this up all game… When we were at our very best we suffocated teams by winning back the ball high up, but also keeping it. Exactly why you need a ball retention specialist like Gini. He is also great at covering space and passing lanes. He was integral to the super transitional team we used to be, the first half was very transitional… Winning the ball and rushing them at pace. So he looked really good.

The problem I find is he is very poor against park the bus teams, it’s not a co-incidence to me that the deeper they got the less effective Gini becomes… It’s also no co-incidence that he’s been part of a midfield that has struggled all season against park the bus set ups. This is Klopps great challenge, he needs to have a better tactic against the park the bus teams, to offer more variance, and that in my opinion is replacing Gini in the starting line.

Very good at times last night and poor at others.

Here we go with the super fan if you can’t see it blah blah blah. That is the most tiresome thing actually. It’s as if you aren’t seeing something then you’re just not appreciating the unseen when it’s just as possible it’s not actually there. It’s also possible to appreciate the role he plays in the team while also expecting more just as it’s also possible to say he wasn’t the only reason we didn’t score but also part of the reason we didn’t as well. Swanning around two players on the turn looks great but if that’s all you’re looking at then you’re just as guilty of not seeing what he isn’t doing just as we apparently are of not appreciating what he is etc etc.

For me the only issue with Gini, is the amount of touches he has to make a decision to pass the ball, I don’t care whether it goes forward, sideways or backwards he just needs to do it with less touches. He at times kills our momentum. Just wish he had more touches like the one where he took 2 players out with a fantastic piece of control, but that for me is the exception not the rule

If you think I’m a ‘super fan’ you should see me going after Centre Backs, the fucking bellends.

It is sadly true that we’ve been hearing this stuff for ten years now, about several players. He’s a fucking crab. He passes sideways. He doesn’t offer anything. He hides. He’s a coward.

After a decade of going after the lad who has the job of doing the unglamorous ball retention/recycling/disrupting stuff, whether that’s Lucas, or Hendo, or Gini, maybe we should to accept that this is part of the team. You don’t need to be a super fan to see that.

That doesn’t justify your insult toward me, does it?
Neat to take what I said completely out of context, I have never given Gini the abuse Lucas, Hendo got and find your tiresome comment amusing. Gini has never ever been treated like those others have.
Even recently there have been Adrian and Lovren who got much more abuse from posters on here in fact I don’t think I’ve ever posted abuse at Gini, just given my opinion.
If you think that requires mods insulting me then so be it!

I didn’t call you a cunt, I said your opinion was batshit. Which that string of invective toward probably our most consistent performer this season certainly was.

It wasn’t a personal attack. I just attacked what you said.

Which is, simply put, just your opinion as well. Any sort of criticisms on here get jumped on and shut down by usage of absolutes that in the end are anything but.

Course it is. Feel free to have a pop at it. I won’t get upset.

Gini Wijnaldum is set to leave Liverpool this summer after the Reds refused to meet his contract demands. [liverpool echo]

Fewest touches on the pitch, fewer passes made than Alisson. 1 tackle, 1 interception his highlights. Ruined a number of attacking moves and terrible defensively.

One of the worst performances I’ve seen from our midfielders in the Klopp era. I’ve been a big fan of him over the years but that was laughable.

Invisible second half.

I literally nearly threw something at one point. He went forward with the ball and I think it was Mane open just ahead, perfect angle for a through ball. Nothing. No drive, no attacking impulse even when it’s the safest thing to do with the ball. I know his role is the ball recycler but I’m sure Klopp isn’t going to be that upset if every now and again he sometimes plays a, safe, ambitious ball that will help make things happen for us.

He can go in my opinion. Rumour that he’s asking for Mo and Virgil level of wages. Laughable with his recent performances.

Wow! Maybe he feels he is being used wrongly at Liverpool?

Mentioned that during the pre game thread, was almost as easy pass as Robbo’s but at least Robbo tried to make it.

He was rated 6 on TIA. If keita had the same performance he’d get a 2
